One Verify wtf????

Seems that the Top Bucks AVS, OneVerify, formerly AgeVerify, doesn't allow text links to sponsors on your sites.

What a crock of shit.

It's too bad - I'd like to build for them but stuff like this is bullshit. My site, my links. Why would I want to use some shitty banner that's been seen 10 million times when I can do a faster loading text link that will make money?

Christ, if I wanted to build for places that didn't want webmasters to get sales I'd do TGP or free sites all day.

This is exactly why sponsor companies should stay the hell out of AVS - they don't have a clue what they are doing.

We understand your concern that our rules are too strict, and we value all feedback we get from webmasters. It's true that the OneVerify rules are stringent, but we also offer high payouts and provide a very large amount of traffic to the participating sites, as well. Accordingly, we feel it's reasonable to ask for a higher standard of quality from the sites on OneVerify, because of the value of the features, traffic, and high payouts that we offer.

As for the no text link policy itself, when we first launched the AVS, we did allow text links, and we quickly had a large number of sites using all variety of oversized, misleading and blind text links to pull clicks out to their other sites/sponsors. Our feeling was that these practices devalued the AVS as a whole, and would lead to lower retention rates for the member base.

While our "compliance robot" can verify the size of banners being used, webmasters could potentially use style sheets to control the way a font size is interpreted by the browser, and we haven't figured out a way to make the bot detect whether someone is using a style sheet to create an enormous, unsightly text link. (In other words, in the code itself the font size could be defined as 1, but they could incorporate a style sheet to interpret 1 as HUGE. If we had to police the size of text links by way of a human editor, we'd have an overwhelming amount of daily site review to do.)

While I recognize that most webmasters would not abuse the ability to use text links if we allowed them, we have to be cognizant of the potential for such abuse, and the negative effect such abuse could have on the quality of our AVS. The bottom line is that if we don't maintain a quality product, the members will not stay. If the members don't stay, we can't afford the high payouts we're offering now, and then no one is making any money.

We're not trying to prevent webmasters from making money on the upsell, we're trying to prevent less scrupulous webmasters from using OneVerify as <i>strictly</i> a traffic generating device for their other sponsors, or their own paysites.

That said, we are not entirely inflexible when it comes to our terms. In fact, we've changed a couple our policies already based on webmaster feedback, and it's possible we may revisit the text link policy in the future, as well.

Sorry but that one sentence is the biggest load of bullshit a sponsor has posted in a long time. Your rules are actually funny as they are so heavily weighted against letting people make upsells. If I remember correctly even the banner size has to be 'standard' and no odd size banners can be used.

I suppose if somebody wants an AVS purely for membership sales yours may work. For those of us who also make a significant amount of money from AVS sites through upselling it's the biggest crock of shit that's been devised for a long time.

I'd love to see how long Topbucks could stay in business if you didn't upsell so much stuff from your paysites yet people using your AVS system are hard pushed to make anything.

Shame because the rest of your programs have always been quite good although I've never pushed them as much as I should. The AVS system though is as I've said - just a joke.

What you want is to sit back and rake the profits from the AVS with little or no work ie almost no reviewing and fuck it - why allow people to make money from upsells? After all it lowers your chance of making one. Go join sexyavs and build some sites then you will see how a 'free' AVS system should be run.

Are you reading this Top Bucks? Rules that are reasonable and webmaster friendly so everyone can make some money.

Hmmm... gee, I wonder which of the two I should add to the mix.

OK - never let it be said that OneVerify/TopBucks doesn't listen to webmasters....

After all the concerns and questions over our various rules and terms, the OneVerify administrators met today and we have decided to make a couple of changes that should be well received by those of you who have posted on this thread.

Rule change #1 - we now allow text links, on both regular and premium sites. There will, of course, be rules as to how many and what kind of text links you can use (no illegal/misleading text, size/character length limitations, etc.), but none of the conditions will be so restrictive as to prevent webmasters from doing effective upsells.

Rule change #2 - we have eliminated the rule which disallowed linking to cgi, php and other types of scripts.

We will be sending out an email to all OneVerify webmasters explaining the rules changes, and the terms listed on the site will be updated to reflect the changes as well.

One point that should be considered where all of this is concerned; OneVerify is a very new AVS, and as such, has relatively few members and little members traffic to speak of at this point in time. Obviously, this means that until OneVerify has a large number of participating webmasters/sites, there isn't a lot of traffic to upsell, anyway.

The traffic we're sending to the site is coming to the "participating sites" page, and is providing the current OneVerify webmasters with healthy number of sales, just from our traffic alone.

At any rate, you've spoken, we've listened, and hopefully OneVerify is a better AVS for all concerned (webmasters, surfers and us) as a result. As always, I'm available to discuss any other concerns or questions you may have - just shoot me an email [email protected]
