Well yeah I was using the word "tivo" like people use "kleenex" to mean tissue. But a DVR/PVR... it's a way to make your own.

hehe, sorry, I am protective over the TIVO name haha

I have seen other DVR's and NOTHING comes close to a tivo

I have to agree. I LOVED mine but switched to the box provided by my cable co when I got HiDef because Tivo didn't have that option at the time. Their software is just fantastic but this open source thing looks really good too. I just ordered FIOS TV so I could combine my phone, Internet and TV and save a few bucks over what the cable co is charging me. Their software looks a lot better too but I doubt anything will compare to the Tivo. We'll see.

Ultimate TV used to be real good too even though it was a Microsloth product.

I made a few of them using my old XBoxes, some cheap 200 gig HDDs I got at CompUSA, MythTV and XBox Media Center. They all run in my home network too.

ive built a couple, the biggest problem ive had is the shitass remore controls that come with capture cards.

for the time, money and frustration involved ill stick with the direct tv dvr with tivo.

Ooo I like to hear that DirecTV uses the Tivo interface since my upcoming Fios dealio supposedly is using the whole DirecTV package.

http://www.mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html

This is the easiest way to get Myth. Burn the knoppmyth ISO to a CD and it installs the linux operating system with Myth already built into it. Of course some linux knowledge is required.

Not only can Myth do everything Tivo can (although Tivo's interface blows all the rest away) it can manage and play your videos and music, give you access to news feeds, weather, internet and connect to your netflix account.
