Anyone use external storage and edit video with a laptop?

My laptop is a hoss, and I usually use my desktop to edit video. Was wondering if there is a fast external drive that is worthy of handling video and does it well.

Anyone?

I haven't tried gigabit networking... but you need a pretty fast transfer rate to do video work. You might want to test out firewire drives, they MIGHT be fast enough for the job.

Firewire may be sufficient, but if you really want speed go with an eSata interface solution.

any one will work as longas it has a firewire or usb2 connection, usb1 win't cut it
i have dozens of drives and a half dozen or so enclosures
i usually just leave one on my desk all taken apart so it's faster to swap drives out

MacBook Pro 17" has external firewire 800 interface, i pair mine w/ two 800GB Lacie external raid drives and edit using Final Cut Pro HD. performance is probably better than many desktops, nice combo for me while traveling..

I was looking at those.

What is the difference between the PCI-E Card and the PCI-X Card?
