First Net neutrality is not new the net always ran on it. Whats to stop them from making all porn a lower level tier. The net has been a very level playing field if a few companies get their way that would stop.

Two points. First, it's great if yoru already established and making money. It's not going to cost you a whole lot plus it almost eliminates anyone new from challenging you. Second, we already pay for it. We pay our hosts for bandwidth not only in how much we use but for the size of the pipe your hooked up to so that your surfers don't have to wait for your shit to load. When the head of AT&T comes out and start complaining because Google is making money and he wants some of it, it just smacks of a money grab. It's kind of like what some tier 1 companies were doing with spam. They talk about how it's such a horrible thing and it clogs up thier system, yet in private you hear stories of how they are offering to let people mail to their hearts content for $XXXXX/month. As far as I'm concerned its just a way to bullshit people whos major activity on the web is check email and myspace. And when I hear a lobbiest for the ISP's say "if the internet continues as it is now it will get to the point where you can't get to any sites because we are all loosing money" (an interview I heard on NPR one morning) it doesn't do anything to change my mind.

To a very limited extent it does (the logic can even be extended to arguing that this is already factored into your Phone-DSL/Cable bill). However, the big issue is that of SYSTEM LOAD DISTRIBUTION--whether those sites that impact the network heavily have to pay more since they "load" the system more.

Thinking out of the box, it doesn't have to be a Win/Lose situation. The cable/network providers/pipe owners can be the collection agent of content owners--thereby providing a new revenue stream for Internet content companies.
