Democrats’ “New Direction”

The Democrats new promise “A New Direction For America - Vote Democratic”

The stock market is at a new all-time high and America’s 401 K’s are back. A new direction from there means, what?

Unemployment is at 25 year lows. A new direction from there means, wh at?

Taxes are at 20 year lows. A new direction from there means, what?

Federal tax revenues are at all-time highs. A new direction from there means, what?

The Federal deficit is down almost 50%, just as predicted over last year. A new direction from there means. what?

Home valuations are up 200% over the past 3.5 years. A new direction from there means, what?

Inflation is in check, hovering at 20 year lows. A new direction from there means, what?

Not a single terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01. A new direction from there means, what?

Osama bin Laden is living under a rock in a dark cave, having not surfaced in years, if he’s alive at all, while 95% of Al Queda’s top dogs are either dead or in custody, cooperating with US Intel.

A new direction from there means, what?

Several major terrorist attacks already thwarted by US and British Intel, including the recent planned attack involving 10 Jumbo Jets being exploded in mid-air over major US cities in order to celebrate the anniversary of the 9/11/01 attacks. A new direction from there means, what?

Just as President Bush foretold us on a number of occasions, Iraq was to be made “ground zero” for the war on terrorism — and just as President Bush said they would, terrorist cells from all over the region are arriving from the shadows of their hiding places and flooding into Iraq in order to get their faces blown off by US Marines rather than boarding planes and heading to the United States to wage war on us here. A new direction from there means, what?

Now let me see, do I have this right? I can expect:

a.. The economy to go South
b.. Illegals to go North
c.. Taxes to go Up
d.. Employment to go Down
e.. Terrorism to come
f.. Income Tax breaks to go Out
g.. Social Security to go away
h.. Health Care to go the same way gas prices have gone

But what the heck! I can gain comfort by knowing that Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Edward Kennedy, Howard Dean, Harry Reid, and Barak Obama have worked hard to create a comprehensive National Security Plan, Health Care Plan, Immigration Reform Plan, Tolerance of Everyone and Everything Plan, How to Return all Troops to the U.S. in The Next Six Months Plan, A Get Tough Plan, adapted from the French Plan by the same name and a How Everyone Can Become as Wealthy as We Are Plan. I forgot the No More Katrina Storm Plan.

Now I know why I feel good after the elections. I am going to be able to sleep soooooo much better at nights knowing these dedicated politicians are thinking of me and my welfare.

That pdf is great it was put out by consumer reports.
First Net neutrality is not new the net always ran on it. Whats to stop them from making all porn a lower level tier. The net has been a very level playing field if a few companies get their way that would stop.

Allowing broadband carriers to control what people see and do online would fundamentally undermine the principles that have made the Internet such a success...A number of justifications have been created to support carrier control over consumer choices online; none stand up to scrutiny."

What is the incentive to do that? Isn't porn making enough money for them?

Two points. First, it's great if yoru already established and making money. It's not going to cost you a whole lot plus it almost eliminates anyone new from challenging you. Second, we already pay for it. We pay our hosts for bandwidth not only in how much we use but for the size of the pipe your hooked up to so that your surfers don't have to wait for your shit to load. When the head of AT&T comes out and start complaining because Google is making money and he wants some of it, it just smacks of a money grab. It's kind of like what some tier 1 companies were doing with spam. They talk about how it's such a horrible thing and it clogs up thier system, yet in private you hear stories of how they are offering to let people mail to their hearts content for $XXXXX/month. As far as I'm concerned its just a way to bullshit people whos major activity on the web is check email and myspace. And when I hear a lobbiest for the ISP's say "if the internet continues as it is now it will get to the point where you can't get to any sites because we are all loosing money" (an interview I heard on NPR one morning) it doesn't do anything to change my mind.

From a purely property rights perspective, shouldn't the cable companies/backbone companies get some $ for investing in the infrastructure of the Net? Because unlike Radio content, internet content ultimately has to go through pipes/data networks they invested in.

I was under the impression consumer service-fees covered those expenses.

To a very limited extent it does (the logic can even be extended to arguing that this is already factored into your Phone-DSL/Cable bill). However, the big issue is that of SYSTEM LOAD DISTRIBUTION--whether those sites that impact the network heavily have to pay more since they "load" the system more.

Thinking out of the box, it doesn't have to be a Win/Lose situation. The cable/network providers/pipe owners can be the collection agent of content owners--thereby providing a new revenue stream for Internet content companies. But this is precisely what people who want to keep the internet OPEN are most afraid of......

Okay, let's put aside network neutrality aside for a moment. Let's say that yes, NN is a great thing, and thank whatever god you praise, they are taking action on this.

Now . . . is this the most important thing going on in our country right now? Is it such a priority that the first 100 hours should be devoted towards it?

Counldn't NN wait a couple weeks?

Certainly, there are far more important issues in the United States that need to be addressed.

i can never decide who is funnier to watch...

...all the idiots who promise change and a new direction and have been doing so since the beginning of time and their arguments of why they will be different and better than the other side...

...or all the idiots that get actually start getting excited that things will be better now that their guy is in office

... or all the idiots on the other side screaming how every campaign promise they made was a lie once they are elected and how their side would have done so much better.

... or those poor souls who finally come to realize that the entire system is built on people lying to get power and then doing little with it, once they have it and spending most of their time fighting against those who want it.

only a moron really believes in an idea like "my selfless, compassionate, caring and honorable career politician is much better than your lying, greedy and selfish career politician"
