These big free video sites like break.com make a living off of STOLEN content!!!

How is this fair? Is this a legit way to run a business? Ok so lets say some stupid kids that live at home with their parents want to start a site like Youtube so they go through all their DVDs and rip all the best scenes from them and put it on their site not knowing what they are doing is totally illegal. Now some dude from the other side of the world finds their crappy site and starts submiting their videos to some big sites like break.com, Youtube etc.... well now youtube, break.com and all these other big sites are making millions of dollars just because it was submitted by a user and they think thats enough to give them the rights. I can go on and on about this because it pisses me off so much.

Sometimes these viral videos can be great exposure but thats only if there is a way for the surfers to know your product also. In my case they never have a clue because scenes are ripped straight from my DVDs. I have lost millions of dollars because of these free video sites.

IF A SITE DOES NOT HAVE DIRECT PERMISSION FROM THE PERSON WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT THEY SHOOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SERVE ADVERTISMENTS ON THOSE PAGES.

Im sure Real TV or Americas funniest home videos would have loved if they could just steal peoples footage and then collect all the advertising money off of it, they would probably be very rich people but know they did it the good old hard way.

Real TV bought some footage from me a while back and paid me for $2,000 for it, what makes these websites think they can use it for free?

Q: Are these Almost Illegal DVDs legal?
A: You will have to check with your community laws to be positive our DVDs are not illegal in your community but as for the United States, Canada and Europe our DVDs are 100% legal. Thiswillshockyou.com receives legal counsel before and during any production. We are very careful in making sure we follow all state and federal laws before releasing any DVDs. Even though some of the footage is of illegal activities it is not illegal to film or view it.

What persons do in a public place, or where the public is invited to be present, is not protected by any right of privacy or expectation of privacy. This is especially true if the person is attracting attention to themselves by nudity or other expression. Thiswillshockyou.com believes that all persons have the right to express themselves in this manner and make any statement in public they choose.

Thiswillshockyou.com does not use hidden cameras and openly displays cameras in any shootings. We always try to document what occurs accurately and without intent to harm anyone. When ever the law requires us to do so we get release forms signed and keep them on file.

Case law and legal opinions support the position that a person who is attracting attention to themselves while in a public place may be photographed. Examples include both surveillance cameras and news shows such as 60 Minutes that use hidden cameras and "surprise attack" interviews. Certainly, the display nudity and violence in public is newsworthy and of public interest.

"Newsworthy" is the basis for protection under the 1st Amendment of the Constitution. The concept is that the public has the right to know what occurs, especially, if it is on government property or in a place that the public is invited to be. Thiswillshockyou.com DVDs are "documentary" in style in that there is no "staging," "directing," or "script" that is followed. The DVDs present true life occurrences and tell the story of what tapers actually see at an event. As such, they are protected by the Constitution and by case law as both "newsworthy" and documentary footage

I LOVE IT!

Im sure they had this same problem when TV or radio first came out but then people got pissed, lawsuits were filed and now things are the way they are today. The same will happen with the Internet.

Yea and the money is starting to roll in. I really think these big content producers are not aware of just how much money these guys are making and how big of a problem it really is. To be honest before youtube was bought by google I just thought it was some stupid little site being ran out of someones garage or something so I did not care much about my content being on there. Im sure content producers have not done anything about this for the same reason I did nothing about.

The wake up call for me was when I saw a site called metacafe.com which I thought maybe did $30,000 or so MAX in monthly revenue was able to pay people that submit content $5 for every 1,000 views their video gets and one of my videos that was illegally added to their site got over 7 million views and would have made me over $35,000. That really really opened my eyes and made me say... wait a second something is not right here.

i noticed you didnt reply to rob.. isn't your site founded on the same basic principles ? like where do you get your fight videos for example ? do you buy the rights for them ? or did you just copy them off the net/t.v.

I'm not saying you are or arent but i think its a valid question..

Obviously some areas are gray and some are just plain copyright theft ( on yourube etc ) its hard to offer an upload service that isnt monitored and follow copyright laws as theres no way for software to detect if something is copyright.. if you have 10 reviewers and 20 people uploading copyright videos 24 hours a day you will double illegal copyright material and never get rid of it..

From the stuff Rob quoted from the site, it sounded like they do all their own filming. Sounds like the disclaimer was there to try to protect themselves if someone appears in their videos that did not give permission. Didn't sound like it was trying to cover themselves for stealing content from other sources.

That is exactly what they did. Thats why they give out a small prize, so that people will send in the videos.
