Broken notebook - Is it possible to sell at all?

Have you had any experience with selling broken items?
I have an old Fujitsu Siemens notebook computer that is broken.. It works, it loads, but it goes into restart every once in awhile..
I took it over to FJC distribution center, they did a check on it and claimed that motherboard needs replacing. It costs as much as the whole computer, so I figured I'd rather sell it for spare parts. But FJC didn't want it. Do you think I could try somewhere else?

Fleabay is a great place to sell broken stuff, people will often times go apeshit for it, especially if the lcd screen is in good shape. Just a quick question though, have you tested the ram of the computer? That problem just doesn't really sound like a mobo problem to me... you could try a program like memtest86 and stress test the ram for 1.5-2 hours (let it do two complete passes at a minimum).

I doubt it can stay on for 2 hours - it'll go into restart I'm affraid.. But that sounds good enough to try at least.

It's worth a shot at least. If it restarts while running memtest86 (rather than just freezing up) then it's probably not the ram. (program runs in dos from a floppy disk or cd-r)

Just sell it as working and "as is" on ebay. You'd make more and pwn the problem off on someone else.

memtest showed no errors in 3 passes.. I guess its not the RAM.
Is there anyway for me to check chipset? Maybe its cooler got broken and it overheats all the time?

one thing it definitely sounds like you need to do is turn off the "automatic reboot" when it errors

right click on My Computer, click properties, go to advanced, click Settings under startup and recovery, uncheck automatic restart

that will stop it from restarting automatically

it could also be overheating, mine used to do that

i eventually opened the laptop up myself and the air vents were SO clogged up that no air could get through...i scraped all that dust out and it hasn't automatically shut down since

Jace, I'd say that my pooter needs time to "get warm" before it will actually LOAD WINDOWS
10-15 minutes before that Warm point it won't even let me click the user I want on the screen, it will be restarting while loading windows

Yep, that doesn't help. I often get restarts while installing applications and updates and that ruins the installation.
