Homeowners Association Wants 3-Year-Old Evicted

CLEARWATER, Fla. - A child in need of a home could force her grandparents out of theirs because their Gulf Coast community is for people 55 and over.
Kimberly Broffman's grandparents have to make a choice -- their house or their granddaughter.

"We said, 'We're not going to get rid of the baby, so we have to get rid of the house,'" said Jimmy Stottler.

When they moved into The Lakes community in Clearwater, Judie and Jimmy Stottler said they never planned to raise a child. But Judie's daughter Melanie got into trouble and they took in their granddaughter Kimberly, who was 6 months old at the time.

The arrangement was supposed to be temporary.

When the the couple moved into this SENIOR community they prolly made a covenant not to raise children there. Good reasons no doubt for the old folks and any potential kids in the hood. When you're older, you'll understand.

I can see that if it, a no kids community. we have no kids apartment blocks.
old people have earned the right to live in peace with no noisy kids around if they so wish.

But I dont think they should try and push the people out. If they want them out that bad, then the association needs to buy the home at fair market value.

thats bullshit. i hate those "55+" communty crap. if they want to live with other old people, theres a place called a retirement home. i can see if they moved in there and was told not to do that. i guess its the same as people who move into an apt then get a dog when they signed a lease saying no dogs and get evicted

I think there should be a 55 and below adult webmasters community. where instead of drinking fountains with water, it shoots out mixed drinks. and instead of Matlock reruns, its MaxHardcore

Kimberly is now 3 1/2 years old.

It is not just old people...it's these fucking home owner's associations..they're run by people who need to feel some kind of power in their otherwise powerless lives.

Here in Vegas a man erected a flagpole..HOA freaked out...in another story people on the HOA were charged with making death threats against a woman they were harassing.

I have a friend who's father put a card table in his garage so he could sit out there and smoke..that way people in the house or in the backyard by the pool didn't have to suffer...his HOA made him take it out.

I also have another friend who is the treasurer of her HOA and she fits the bill of the powerless looking for power...and I've been at her house when board members have been there to discuss things..and quite honestly it makes me fucking sick.

Easy solution . . . . don't buy a home that is part of an HOA.

While I never considered purchasing a home in a community that has one, I am presuming that people buy homes in places like that for the structure they provide.

To start whining when the rules don't suit them doesn't make much sense.

That's tricky. I agree that the baby shouldn't be living there.
It's not meant for families, it's meant for retirees. And I'm sure that it wouldn't be appreciated if children were alowed to live there too.

I think they've been pretty patient as it is putting up with a baby in the neighbourhood for 2 and a half years, all the way through the "terrible 2's" as well.

I would love to move to a "no children" community for people 30+ .... when I turn 30 ;)

I am just thinking about the kid. I know that she is against the rules, but they DID put the house up for sale. So they are trying. And I think that we all agree that every child deserves to be with family.

Imagine if it were your child.
