Monkeys are amazing creatures - only know three here who ended up around humans and they are just so damned cool. One even wants to share his food with ya - just in case you feel like some fresh fruit
Very hospitable!
The sad side is families of monkeys are being pressured by a decrease in land area where they can roam - and some end up being electrocuted trying to cross roads by walking along the power cables, but the govt is presenting a suitable face in trying to protect em. One development project was held up for almost 10 days or so at some silly cost per day waiting for the last monkey to move into another area - he was not budging from his home. That cost the developer around $600K waiting for the monkey

instead we didnt get a monkey and my little brother of 2 years old ended up throwing the poop!

If you sit in the middle of a rainforest here and keep quiet - eventually all critter life appears and curious as to who the hell you are The coaties appear first -
then the monkeys wonder WTF the coaties are looking at and follow on to check out the action. Their reaction varies - not sure why - maybe if you are in their territory, they will get pissed and start a frenzy of tree-jumping. The worst side is when they start pissing on ya to move you off
Other times the family just sit and watch you - they seem to be OK just studying humans.
Know the type of monkey you mean Air - thats one of the types of tame monkeys I know of and always remember the very first time meeting her and shaking hands - very delicate grip and not what you'd expect and very affectionate (Never knew what to expect) That monkey was reared by a biologist - it's mother was killed in an accident when it was very young and it would not be able to fend for itself in the wild.

yeah i was a kid driven by biology and science, i knew that those little monkeys were not the ones to throw their waste. i moved on to asking for baby bengal tigers. LOL.
this time when we go, instead of taking the wild and crazy atv tour, i wanna take a tour to see animals and stuff.
in jaco last year i almost drove my atv off the side of a cliff by accident.

One place definately worth visting is Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula - tho it's one hell of a trip to get there by road (road is utter crap). It's basically a village, but the wildlife is used to humans and not too cautious - monkeys walk down the street. The whole place is a ... kinda wildlife paradise. A few of the best national parks are in that area (Corcovado etc) and there are plenty biologist type people who would be happy to show ya around.
National Geographic described that area as the most biodiverse place on the planet (awesome when you think they are putting it above the Amazon basin).
The gulf, Golfo Dulce, is full of sealife - whales, dolphins etc. Another area just next door is the Rio Sierpe - awesome river rich in wildlife (also some fairly large crocodiles!) - well worth taking a boat down the Sierpe.
We just finished a feasibility study on 650 hectares of land there - but doubt we will buy it cos it would mean messing with the enviornment in that area - and it's too senstive already. The wildlife people did a "catalog" of species on that area and it's a list of over 1200 species of wildlife and .. can't remember but around 3000 species of flora - it's literally a paradise

The small town has at least 20 bars (and a couple of whorehouses as well *lol*). The people are very friendly (just edit out the leeches) and plenty folks (expats etc) who speak English.

Looks very much like the airstrip there
It's also prob better flying there - the aircraft usually follows the coastline down to Osa and over the Sierpe Valley and gives a clue of the area (either NatureAir or Sansa).
On this beach you can watch jaguars wandering along with their cubs in the morning/evening (they are not dangerous and prefer to avoid humans)...

Ahah! Playa Zancudo is another one of these nice places! It would be very easy just to live down there and forget about the real world Totally laid back place - we fly down there fairly often then take a boat up the gulf - some of the places are only accessible from the gulf and no roads into em.
Yep.. could be Golfito airstrip - are there hills on the right of that pic? Golfito is the place where the aircraft needs to do some manoevering to get in line with the runway and avoid the hills.
Looks like the postion your pic was shot at was the turning/parking area for aircraft? Here's a pic (tho useless as ID of the location) of Golfito parking area where the foreground prob is on your image...
There is a new marina under construction now at Golfito involving a lot of cash - so that's prob the start of further development in that area. There is also a new international airport due to be constructed about 40-50 mins away (bigger than the airport in San Jose) - but hell knows where the passengers are supposed to stay. The airport is designed to handle the new Airbus 380 with 700 ish passengers - Sierpe Llodge has 12 rooms and no intention of expanding There is a lot of opposition to having more tourists down in Osa.
