    Anyone have experiece with "burn your own dvd" type paysites?

    I'd love to offer members super high quality dvd ready to burn content along with the standard mpg/wmv sets. I'm just not sure the masses are ready for it? Am I wrong?

    I messed around with a couple ideas, and each has their own concern.

    1) I can offer mpeg2 videos that are dvd ready. The surfer would need some knowledge of how to actually convert it on dvd so that it's actually playable on their systems. There are several known programs that do this, but I'm not sure many would take the time to do it... or even understand the process.

    2) I can offer an already authored dvd and have the member download two zip files, one folder would be the Video_TS and the other would be the Audio_TS and all they would need to do is use a program like nero and basically just drag/drop the files into their respective folder and it's good to go.

    I know there are a few companies doing burn your own dvd sites now (Mike South being one of them) but I was wondering if any more of you have any experience and could offer any opinions/suggestions/criticisms.

      offer the actual vob files, zipped.
      I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !

      But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....

          That's exactly what I meant with my option #2. I would have all the VOB,BUP and IFO files zipped up so that all the member would have to do is drag them to the correct folder in nero and burn.

              why not just let them download an iso/bin/nrg/ccd or some other type of easily burned disk image?

                          none of em have ever worked right for me and i have top notch computers.

                          they were terrible. the ones that did eventually burn looked like shit on my tv.

                              I can also easily make an .iso file. Is that easier to burn to a dvd and make it playable?

                                      I offer a high quality WMV along with dial-up sized wmv's and and also going to offer moderate sized VCD mpg's. To cap it off, I want to offer awesome looking true dvd quality videos of a series. For instance, offer like 4-6 of a certain series's scenes as a dvd.

                                          I'm not sure how you created them, but I've personally sampled my own and they look just as good as any standard dvd you'd rent from a porn shop.

                                          Just to clarify, when I create the mpeg2 videos, they're encoded at a pretty high bit rate (6000). I then did the authoring steps and burned the dvd. Afterwards, I went played them on my big screen (48 inch) and it looked great. "Great" being relative to standard adult movies released.

                                          I also played them on a smaller 32 inch to see the difference and it was solid on both.

                                              If you rar the file, you can split it in various formats ( such as 25 megs or 50 megs ). Then with Quickpar , you create par files ( repair files that fix missing bytes without having to dl again the whole files ).

                                              it would look like:

                                              sceneone.vob.par2
                                              scene0ne.vob.vol00+01.par2

                                                  I have experience combining files using quickpar and mastersplitter (like the example you showed above) but my concern is that the average member isn't familiar with that process and would be discouraged from having to download another 1 or 2 new programs.

                                                  I was trying to hash out the most simplistic method... and so far, it seems like offering the individual files (even though vob files are around a gig each).

                                                  This way, the member would really only need some burning software like nero or roxio (most which come on newer computers). If they have to purchase, the fee is still fairly low.

                                                      the average member is not your clientele ... They will never dl files.

                                                      Yesterday, I was at a hostingclients house to tweak some settings ( he got blocked by my firewall ). He has kids, and wires are running from every room to the router. So I say to him that he should get a wireless one.
                                                      I pull out my laptop, and as it boots, it finds available networks ( 3) all unsecured and one with a very strong signal.
                                                      I go see in the office the router, and it has these two antenas pointing up...

                                                      that is the average surfer ....

                                                              im familiar with this, i thought you were suggesting that it would be easier to download the seperate vobs in a zip vs. an iso in a zip. my feeling was with an iso (possibly in split rars) that once the person has completed the download that they could burn an image easier than dragging in some vobs.

                                                              you could have someone create a front end program for you. the end user would download a cue sheet of some kind, like a .torrent or .nbz and the combo of the program and the cue sheet could download all the needed files, extract them and burn them with 1 click.

                                                              you could offer them dvds for purchase at $5.95 and get me to burn and ship =]
