How do you find out if an expired domain had any traffic?
Thanks for Lensman's answer re. getting traffic in http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/showth...threadid=69078 - one of his ideas was to buy expired domains. Seems to be only worth it when there actually was any traffic going to that domain - otherwise you could buy any free domain and be no better of...
So:how do you find out if an expired domain actually had any traffic? Reason I'm asking: in recent weeks I'd been busy looking for several new domain names, and a good number of names I came up with was of cause taken. Usually I'm a nosy person, so if I think it was a really good name I do a 'whois' (to see when it was registered and if there's a chance it might expire soon), and then call the actual domain to see what it's used for (paysite, AVS, SE traffic, TGP galleries, etc.) - sometimes learn a thing or two from it, too! You'd be surprised [or not!] how many good domain names are either completely dormant, for sale, or simply pointing to some odd search engine or portal pages! There's one site in HK which has heaps of adult domains pointing to their search engine... Do get an expired domain which never had any traffic seems to be a waste of money.

|

Just look at how many links are pointing at it and if it has any good listings (yahoo, dmoz).
