How do you make your own blog theme?

Is there a good tutorial on how to do this?
Does someone need to know css or php to make their own?

Thanks.

css would be helpful, but if you have any experience with html it shouldnt be problem to at least modify a free theme to make it look unique...

Google "create wordpress theme", there are a few good tutorials.

This plugin, "canvas" is pretty good too for peoplel who dont know any css/html/php.

Also what I do sometimes is take all the images from a good free theme and replace the images.

The best way to start is to start changing a existing template you like and see how changes effect the look of your blog. Much better then starting from scratch.
