Bandwidth is cheap, I cant imagine anyone being so hard up to save on a few bytes.
Whether my page is 40k or 39.3k, its not worth the effort. IMHO. And even if it loaded faster, the difference caused by those amounts of bytes less would not even be noticable. Good article though. Those webmasters who are like obsessive martha stewart style webmasters will like it. |

Well, if your site is doing 2 or 300K in traffic each day and you shave off 5k from the file size... it could add up pretty quick.

If you delete the letter "e" everywhere it appears on all of your webpages, you could save up to 2k per day on a 100mps site.

try it in netscape and we'll talk about after... i'm not a NS fan but i don't want to lose my 5-6% users that are using it. I think the best HTML optimization you can achieve when you're using external CSS files. eg: instead of <TABLE WIDTH="100%" CELLPADDING="5" CELLSPACING="0"> you put an <table class="tab1"> instead of <FONT SIZE="2" COLOR="#FFFFFF" FACE="VERDANA"> you put an <div class="fnt1"> etc... of course class1 and tab1 are defined in the .css file.

Not just netscape, but numerous other browsers out there require proper html. search engines are even starting to pay more attention to things such as properly using the new standard of <strong> against <b>
