LiteOn 16X Dual Layer DVD-RW Black
Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Music

This is a TWIN of the system I sold here in June. It was built by Falcon Northwest, the first "boutique" PC builders (like Alienware). You wouldn't believe the care they put into systems, the inside of it is NUTS.

They built two to almost this *exact* spec for me. One is was sold in June, this one was designed to be a second PC for me, but I just didn't end up using it, as I had Alienware build something even higher end. Because it's not much use to me now, I am putting it here, Craigslist, and (if necessary) on eBay.

I paid a ton of money for this box, but it's just not going to use. I love my Alienware, and am getting a new Mac Pro .. soooo, start the bidding.

There is NO reserve. If $1 is the final price, then $1 is the final price.

Buyer pays shipping, unless we work out something for a BIN that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I'll ship it pretty much anywhere, if the buyer is paying shipping.

Ha, the bids are coming in quicker than your fingers!

The last one (same specs) was supposed to go for $1800 on Craigslist, then I ended up getting a $2800 bid. The guy was local, and when he showed up, he gave me $50 extra because he was late, lol .. the world needs more people like him. Chinese or something, so I guess it was his culture.

I don't mind losing a few thousand dollars on it, but I don't want to take an ABSOLUTE bath. I'm going to put in a brand new drive (WD2500KS probably) because the old drives have reports of failures on Google, and the serials on these match that batch. I'll replace the drive free, and eat the cost.

Man, you aren't kidding, re: the money I put into it .. it was marked up like 2x because it's built by a "boutqie" builder. I always laugh when people say "Oh, build your own" .. and then I open this up, or call support, etc, etc. It makes a big difference, but some people will never see that.

The cash I laid out isn't going to be CLOSE to what I get for the thing, but that's ok ... I'll get what I can and move on, hehe.

Bump bids are higher than mine so.... Edgeprod... when do we get keyword filtering in ABPSA? Can't wait! I'm still using my Feedwordpress custom filter I wrote to auto download pics and do keyword filtering on the posts. This is the last step I need to abandon my many hours of faulty programming of FWP.

It's in for the beta right now, actually. I just finished coding it last week. Unfortunately, I can't merge any changes to the "final" tree of ABPSA because my PC is dead (crashed a week or two ago). Waiting on the repairs now.

It'll have to pass the beta before it goes live into the next version, though.

Any idea what shipping to Europe (NL) would cost?

What's the end date for the auction btw?

Not a clue, but check it on the web if you'd like, from Connecticut, USA.

There's no specific "end date," it really depends on how many people ICQ me (surprisingly, only one so far), how many people post, how active the response from Craigslist is, and if eBay becomes necessary.

so this pc is good, the alienware is better, both are good enough to justify paying 2-3x what the parts cost because of the fantastic support, yet your pc is dead for 1-2 weeks and still waiting on repairs?

sorry, i have no reason to bust your balls, just curious =]

Haha, don't worry, you aren't busting balls. The Alienware didn't die, luckily. However, the PC that *did* die has parts so specific (and custom) it may be a WHILE before I can get them replaced.

That's why you don't spend 5-figures on a PC!

Just went on newegg.com and added every part. Brand for Brand model number for model number - so everything is exactly the same as the specs listed. Total is 14 Item(s) ($1,324.88) (it's 14 items instead of 15, because the ram is 2 1024MB sticks in one package, so they consider that one item.) Shipping is $48.13. Although, that's each part in it's own box. Prebuilt would be alot less as it's one package.

As for paying 2-3x the price for the parts just for customer support? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Every part comes with a warranty and support from the manufacturer. If you're buying a computer like the one listed above - you should know what the hell you're doing in the first place and be able to handle just having a warranty and phone support from the manufacturer.

Anyway, like I said total price - $1,324.88 & around $50 shipping. Sweet deal if someone can get it for $800ish the bids are at now.

Er, well actually I forgot to mention. I couldn't find an Athlon X2 4200+ in socket 939 (which is what the Asus A8N32-SLI mobo is). So on my list I added an Athlon X2 4400+. So technically the PC in my newegg cart is slightly better. :D

Man, if I had the time, patience, or general cheap-ass-ness to build my own, I'd go nuts with something like that. I remember, as a kid, living at home with my parents, I used to build EVERY single PC that I owned. Fun times for sure. Now that I'm an adult, though, I find that it borders on silly for me to keep doing that.

Awesome research on Newegg! Must have taken some time, but it looks like you've got it.

Glad to hear that you've got the know-how to do all of your own stuff. I wouldn't go it without a warranty, etc. with today's components .. I'm not NEARLY as tech-savvy as you seem to be.

Price on this, as spec'd out in TODAY's dollars, was about $3,000 from most of the builders I checked online.

What do you charge, incidentally, to build PC's? Can I order some from you, with parts bought from New Egg?

Yikes, it's 10:45am, I have to go to sleep. ICQ me if you can build some PC's with those specs at that ridiculously low price -- I may have some work for you, as I sure as shit am not going to spend my time doing it. Let me know if your fee is reasonable.

Yeah I'm on newegg 24/7. I'm hooked on PCs. I just bought the parts for another rig yesterday afternoon. It's an Athlon X2 3800+, 2 gig DDR2 800, 7600GS, hd/dvdr/case/etc. Was only $639 + $32 shipping.

The one you posted which priced out at $1,300~ I could probably bring down in price by about $100. It's just about going back through and fine combing the parts list. Trying to find discounted or rebated items. Like yesterday the parts list originally started out at $720, but got them down to $639.

Anyway, I build em for people all the time. I can usually do it for free, if there is enough in rebates on the items(like $50-70). Otherwise I'll just charge like $50-100 depending on how complex the system is. It's always fun building a PC, and it only takes like an hour. So I'm always willing to help someone out. Specially since it saves the person an insane amount of money having it custom built instead of say walking into bestbuy or alienware and buying one.

You can also go to a discount auto parts store and buy all your disc brake parts. Do you?

Well, price isn't the first concern, honestly. If you've ever experienced the Alienware support, it might sway you. Replacements can arrive SAME DAY if it breaks early enough .. it's just too much of a hassle for me to "save a few bucks" and get screwed later on.

However, for "backup" PC's, like this one, it's definitely worth saving a bit, and if they die, just replace 'em.

What's the most ridiculous system you'd suggest? Just absolute carnage. I've been looking at the Mac Pro (the quad-processor desktop) more than anything else.

In both cases, if you crash, you may well be fucked!

Amusing.

Well, I do my own brakes/oil changes/etc. I've bought and installed 3 different lift kits on my Jeeps. Rebuilt the carb on my old on twice. The list of things I've done to the two Jeeps I owned is way too long to list.

I'm sorry, but working on cars is fucking easy. The old parts come off and the new parts go back on in the same order. That's basically the jist of all auto work. So how exactly are you trying to digg at me because I do my own auto work?

I'm confused. How exactly would you be screwed later on? Just as with alienware, if any of the parts fail you call them up and get a new part. All the parts are under warranty. If you buy a CPU from newegg, it's under warranty through AMD.

No, in both cases the parts are under warranty. You buy a part from an auto store or you buy a part from a computer store. They're going to come with a warranty - so the part will be replaced if it fails.

It's VASTLY different. Alienware shows up at your door with a technician to fix your parts, or ships them overnight so you have them RIGHT AWAY, before you even send anything back to them.

As far as I'm concerned, that makes the price VERY worthwhile in an adult world. If I were still a kid, I'd be building my own systems left and right, though. Doing that with friends, etc, was an AWESOME experience!

But seriously -- bed!!
