Where the fuck do you live that you cant cash checks on Saturday? Hell, I can cash them at the stores on Sunday, but most banks have at least one branch thats open for a little bit on Saturday. And a few banks have branches inside Wal-Marts and stuff that are even open on Sundays.

You can cash a check at your bank anytime with funds in it. I'm saying that banks will not process and clear a check till the next business day. I bank at Lasalle, Wells Fargo, and TCF. While they'll add the deposit on to your balance, the available balance will not be the full amount. If there are banks out there that don't require checks to clear, please let me know. I'm in Chicago and we have virtually any bank imagineable.

And it wont keep postage prices down. They just want to cut that day out of the work week and then in a couple of years later they'll have some other crisis that they'll claim justifies a rate increase. And now that Bush put a new law in that provides even less oversight on rate increases, they'd have no problem getting it through.

What they need to do is close some of the unneeded branch offices. There are two post offices in this tiny little town of Norman, OK (Suburb of OKC) alone and that doesn't even count the post offices in stores and such. It takes a whole 15 min to drive from one end of this town to the other, it doesn't need two fucking post offices. This same story is repeated all across the country, post offices way out in the middle of nowhere when there is one in the next bigger town over less than 15 min away. And people always like to bitch about the drive, well, thats what happens when you decided to live in the middle of nowhere, you have to drive a little ways to town to go do stuff. If you don't like that, move to the city or shut the fuck up.

I am not up-to-date on the financials of the postal service. All I know is when I mail something to someone, they usually get it in a couple days. If it's 39 cents, 42 cents, or whatever, I don't really care.

Also, the post office needs to be forced to stop sponsoring stuff like Tour de France and wasting money on TV advertising. You don't see the welfare office advertising on TV, thats because everyone knows its there. The same applies with the post office. There is only one way to send a letter in this country and even the dumbest of us know where to go and how to do it.

I do agree with you on this.

well its just a day, not so bad...

Axzar 01-02-2007 02:52 AM

The USPS would make more money and be profitable if they would just put soda and food vending machines in the lobbies of all the Post Offices. I would love to own that vending route!

It sounds completely reasonable to:

A) Be someone without bank accounts now, and
B) Scream your head off in someone's office

You do NOT sound ANYTHING like a timebomb. At all. Seriously. Ya rly.

You have a definitely place in regular society. I won't tell you the NAME of that place, because it will spoil the surprise when the black helicoptors and secret operatives you fear come knocking to take you there. Pack light.

The U.S. Postal Service has averaged a profit of over $1 billion per year in each of the last five years. It is one of the few Government services that receives almost NO funding from Congress. It gets $96 Million to mail out for the blind, etc, for free, but considering it makes over $1 billion in *profit* every year, I don't that's unreasonable.

Just FYI. :thumbsup

Thats true. That and pay toilets in the lobby. I cant count the number of times I had to piss so bad after standing in a long line that I would have used the trash can or my PO Box if I thought no one was looking.

First of all, it's just plain crazy to put a check or ANY deposit into an ATM, IMO. But what's happening is your bank is giving you a "float" based on your past business there. Obviously if you're putting it into an ATM and taking the money right out, the check hasn't been processed. Hell, a real human hasn't even seen it!!

TDF 01-02-2007 11:08 AM

thankfully my bank posts everything the same day..even on saturdays

Hey, I want PROOF I put money in one of those things. Asking sponsors to sift through their canceled checks if the bank says there wasn't a check just doesn't seem like fun to me. If I were writing myself a check from one account to another, perhaps, but when dealing with a big business check, I'd just feel better getting a real receipt from a real person :)

And I know people who deposit CASH into ATMs. I kinda do the same thing when I play the slots though. :Oh crap

WebcamCash Anita 01-02-2007 11:43 AM

i really don't think the postal service put up much of a fight over this decision either...

ArkansasDave 01-02-2007 11:50 AM

damn no checks!

ArkansasDave 01-02-2007 11:51 AM

no bills tho either ...:)

Which is why most banks now limit the amount of your deposit that goes into available funds. People got smart and started making large "deposits" that were really just empty envelopes and then they'd use their debit card or ATM card to take all the money out, leaving the bank holding the bag.

I would always avoid putting a deposit in an ATM, esp. a cash deposit. What stops the teller from putting the cash in their pocket the next morning and saying "Opps, we never got your deposit". If I had to do it in an emergency, I would probably show the camera in the ATM each bill and then show me putting it into the enevelope, sealing it and shoving it into the little slot.

Read about Ford's Presidency, how much he gave up personally to hold the country together and avoid a lengthy Nixon trial. You'll be surprised .. or maybe you won't be, from what I've seen in the past.

I agree with you 100%. I'm amazed at how ignorant people are. They know nothing about anything yet complain about everything. Some people need to read some history and also learn how this country works before they complain about shit. Nice reply :thumbsup

Okay, I won't deposit cash into an ATM, but I have never had a problem with a missing check being deposited.

I did have them short me $20 when I made a cash withdrawl, but a visit the next morning resolved that issue.

Unfortunately it's true. I used to do a lot of work with a consumer group and we had at least a complaint a day about ATM cash deposits coming up "short" the next day. Granted, some of those could be stupidity or theft on the part of the customer, but many times it WAS tracked down to those who emptied the ATM.

I ALWAYS screw up the math on my deposit slip and back when I used to put them in the night deposit, I'd get a letter with the correction, but it would have been just as easy for them to pocket whatever I thought I didn't deposit.

Now the nice lady tells me in person at the window that I've done my math wrong :)
