And after the war the German scientists went to New Mexico to work for the U.S. developing Nuclear arms. But maybe they still had an itch to complete previous designs. You know how a scientist can get when they're faced with a riddle they're close to solving...
(admittedly some of them went to Russia as well)

yeah...many people say the Germans had the first "Area 51" i bet a lot of the scientists came over and started the new Area 51...nothing alien about this..just ships using different sources of power and propulsion

don't forget Werner von Braun - he developed the V1 and V2 and later the NASA rocket program including the moon landings. in case they happened ;)
and with Jesko von Puttkamer there's still a german in a leading position of the NASA
