running with a new blog design, any more tips from experienced bloggers?
Ok, so I've been humping on getting a newer, cleaner, more improved design together for my blogs, the design needs to take care of quite a few things for me including providing adequate & mostly non-intrusive advertising space, a reasonable load time, an easily spidered site, room, for lots of easy updating, and of course it has to look good by my standards.
this is what i've come out with in the end... http://www.boobjunkie.com/v2 certainly its an improvement on the first wordpress theme i've been running on my blogs example... http://www.boobjunkie.com any tips on further improving the efficiency of this layout would be greatly appreciated before i go forth with launching the new design network-wide for my empire. this will be my final revision to all layouts before i step into phase 2 of my blog domination plan, the backpage building and content piling. i want everything to look and run perfectly when this design goes live on my blogs for newyears, as I plan on putting another good month towards solely building the content, backpages, and backlinks for the blogs once i have them functioning exactly how i want them too. i plan on reworking my seo in this period, and gunning for better se standing, as well as building up a pile of backlinks, maybe start buying some high pr hardlinks throughout this period too. as the plan goes, i will hump like a son of a bitch on the content of my current 6 blogs (as well as two new ones which are going to launch along with the 6 redesigns) for a month or so. i'd like to build up around 500 backpages per site. then aiming for a january- mid february advertising campaign, to drive traffic like a son of a bitch. if anyone sees anything deisgn-wise or planning wise i should work on, hit me up with some tips... thnx... |

Nice looking layout, good job on it.
one thing I'd change is the background stripe on the sides.. Just leave it the light grey.. Would look better IMO.

ya, i did the design on my own, gonna send it off to xlabor in a couple days for a wordpress conversion (i still suck at wordpress theming). i'm not really doing designs for anyone else. i gave up on doing work for anyone else, it's nothing but a pain in the ass to me. i work far better when i know what i want, and i can go for it without trying to work with someone else's ideas. besides, i need my spare time to build my backpages and so on over the next month - month and a half.

To be honest I think the text is way too small, it's not easily readable. I also think you should introduce some more 'ease' into your design, it's very busy at the moment

the text issue was addressed on another forum, and i will be taking care of that, i'm also going to be cutting down on the banners running in the menus. no need ot have that much in there. if by ease, you're referring to the amount of menu content, its there for backlinking my post categories and hosted gallery pages, for googlespidering ease. not sure what else you mean by ease, if you care to expand please post a reply, or even hit me up on icq to discuss it further. i want this bitch perfect when i go with it, as i am NOT putting any more time into design, it's time to focus my effort on the next step in building a solid site...

I mean the extent to which it is 'easy on the eye'. The borders between different fields in the layout consist of multiple lines for example, in my opinion it makes the design very 'busy'. For example, right above and under 'archives by date', I count some 10 lines and I think those just aren't necessary. I'm not a designer myself, but this is how I feel about it.
I'll have to leave now, hope you'll be helped out by others. |
