    bigger and better bullshit

    Seems a lot of people have been moving on to bigger and better things lately.

    Yet none of them will say what the mysterious "bigger and better" things are.

    Why all the bullshit when someone leaves a company. We all know the majority of the time they either got fired because they didn't do their job or the company isn't doing well and laid them off, or they couldn't get along with the owner/management. I bet 1 out of 10 actually move on to "bigger and better"things.

    GFY must be anomaly, everyone here moves on to bigger and better things.

    When a person gets hired they say the company they are working for is the BEST!! and the company says that person is the BEST, in most cases a couple months later the person is moving on to something even Bigger and Better! and the company is hiring a new BEST! person.

    What a crock of shit you people feed yourselves.

    So the real question is with the high number of people leaving, is it just a coincidence or is a lot of companies doing layoffs ?

          I said this before, then some people jumped on me that it's not a case that they got fired yada yada, yet each time, it proved to be correct after 5 to 6 months passed.

              Humm.. I haven't noticed more people laying anyone off, fired, or quitting, not anything out of the normal at least.

              Account reps will move on - that will "always" happen. Account reps often only make like 15-30k base a year with a % of the fresh sales they bring in. When programs/sites dry up, and the rep can't really make much more, they tend to move on to other programs they think can help with this..


              So I don't think it's a problem of people being fired, ect - but a likely a case of "the grass is greener on the other side" or "management is fucked"

                                  I disagree with you and I disagree with TheDoc... Just in my personal case though. I have ALWAYS moved UP, never backwards and never down. I firmly believe that the company I represent is the very best at the given time. I contribute everything I have to make sure they are better than when I arrived by the time I choose to leave. That has happened in every single case.

                                  Things within a company on the internet change. People get bought out, people change their business models, people grow, make good decisions, make costly mistakes, all which can drastically change the direction any company could be heading.

                                  Affilite reps don't always have the same duties either. Maybe one rep might be happy with just doing quota sales, one might do support for thousands of webmasters by themselves AND do sales. Some direct the other sales people. Some are in charge of outgoing traffic. Some include fraud control as part of their job description. Some even take on reformatting an entire program of how it's to be run and what is going to be offered to the webmaster within a cost efficient manner. Some do search engine work and heavier pr than others.

                                  It's a whole different thing than cropping thumbs or accounting where you're doing the same shit every day for a hourly wage.

                                  Anyway, sometimes I resent "sales reps" being labeled like they are a dime a dozen when not all of them are.

                                                  Well I think in alot of cases, the person joining the company is star struck or really convinced that they are moving into the most killer situation. They're promised this and that and they get caught up in the moment. They announce they are with such and such and they really don't have time to test the waters and evaluate things cuz most of their job duty is to be public representing the company.

                                                  So then they get all in there and working and the boss starts talking shit to them and changing the original agreements and both parties are not living up to what they thought was gonna happen. Maybe their paychecks aren't arriving on time. Maybe the boss is just a total dick. Maybe coworkers are stabbing the person in the back and causing trouble in the workplace. Maybe everytime the person needs something for another company or webmaster, nothing gets done and it starts to make them look bad. Maybe the programmers and graphics people are a bunch of idiots. Maybe the pay sucks.. maybe maybe maybe.

                                                  Usually when people move, it's due to a number of things that don't cause hard feelings or hatred between the two. That's why they can come out and say "I'm moving to better things. I'm going here" Cuz they ARE moving up to better things. Better things than whatever was happening at the prior company. When you're not happy at a job, it's best to shake hands and keep a good relationship cuz we all will continue to do business and make money together. Why burn bridges?

                                                  The cases that no one says shit at all.. they just disappear. That's when you know someone got caught with sticky fingers or did something pretty terrible. The adult industry is a small world though and it's nice to see people move on and evolve and take all their prior deals and situations as lessons on how to be bigger and better and contribute more knowledge to whatever they decide to do. The more experience the better! If you can be trusted that is.

                                                      While RRRED has some excellent points regarding one perspective; one thing you have to keep in mind is what kind of animal GFY is.

                                                      You've read the board. It's like News of the Weird mixed with People magazine and all the other junk they have in the aisles at the grocery store.

                                                      It's necessary for people to be in public positions in order to get a program on everyone's minds and tongues. As a result, you get a bit of politicizing not only in relations but in PR situations.

                                                      There's already key elements of politics in this industry, we all know that. Grandstanding, defamation, misinformation, ambiguation, rivalries, scandals and I'd even go so far to say undefined "parties".

                                                      This is just one more element. It's not going to change man, just the way the industry has become. And for the most part it's harmless. Annoying? Some people think so - but we're a community who *for the most part* keep ourselves clean of bullshit, even if it takes some time.

                                                          I think in most cases if you see people, especially reps, jumping form one ship to another every 2nd month, that either says:

                                                          a) They aren't very good at their job but there are enough companies who will give you a shot without checking references/experience

                                                          or

                                                          b) They follow the dollar so if anyone offers them a few bucks more they take it.

                                                          Obviously in some cases it just might not be working out at the current place and that's why they move on so soon, but if it's happening every other month it's probably you, not the companies

                                                          Then again I'm not expert on this subject as I've been with the same company for 7.5 years and still going

It's just too funny from the outside looking in. Kinda like when you are in high school and you see two people start dating " i love you for ever, you are my true love " couple weeks later they are dating the next love of their life.... no different in adult (on so many levels) except the "players" are older.

                                                                  When I worked in telco (Ameritech/SBC/TDS) for the better part of a decade, the press releases or announcements when the higher ups left were always similar with the 'bigger better things', along with wishing them well.

                                                                  Same type stuff as they are in this business.

                                                                      I agree with that and I think someone like yourself " is the best at what you do" more so than someone with a long resume'. 7 years is a long time to stick with one company, you must be doing something right.

                                                                                          I have been pluggin away for going on 8 years in front the computer but I do have a lot going on offline as well, hence why i would love to do away with sleep so I would have enough time to keep up with everything.

                                                                                          I don't have any experience in corporate world and since the last job I had working for someone else was when i was back in college, i am the first to admit that I do not have first hand knowledge on the bullshit that companies spue.

                                                                                                          "bigger and better things" or "has gone to take on new challenges" or "will be greatly missed as a part of our team" are all horseshit PC statements for saying "they don't work here anymore". People are trying to be nice and not revealing the true reason for their departure.

                                                                                                          Example, we may never truly know why Rochard left the bunny factory and started working in the cherry fields. At least Lensman didn't exactly bury the announcement in long words and fawning generalities.

                                                                                                          Everything we move onto is a bigger and better thing. Get use to it.

                                                                                                                          I guess not, the only jobs i have had in my life were in the restaurant industry and a short 3 month stint selling cars. I both fields when you were fired you were.... fired. Well at the car dealership they would even fire you in front of everyone and curse you on the way out.

I think it is all bullshit, if you got a better job for more money, good for you. If you got fired, you got fired. I think everyone winds up reading between the lines anyway, i don't see the point in the bullshit campaigns with these situations, it just makes all involved look like morons, if it is an accepted practice or not. And if it is none of our business then just say you are no longer working with company a an now you are with b. easy enough.

I am talking about people using the phrase in general. Do you think you were the first to use the phrase " bigger and better things". I am not talking about 1 particular situation, just that fact that almost everyone says that when they leave a company. If I would have been talking about you, you would have seen " DH and Staurt ". All this "bullshit" you refer to is PC corporate America doing the C.Y.A. to keep from being sued.

                                                                                                                                                                  If you were fired from XYZ company, and there was an announcement you were fired, and why you were fired, then most companies in this biz would probably never hire you. You in turn would then cry foul, and sue them for ruining your reputation, and livilyhood. Now you see?

                                                                                                                                                                  By the same token, a lot of the laws in the country (vary by state) do not allow past employers to disclose more than the date you were hired, left, and would you hire them again. That's it.

                                                                                                                                                                  While I see your point sport, there are reasons, or better, a method to the madness.
