he's playing it on the Wii because the Wii is also a GameCube. Remember this whole backwards compatibility thing they've been talking about? the Wii has a GC inside of it. And they're just using the GC homebrew/piracy mods on the Wii in GameCube mode. Therefore, the Wii has not been hacked.
