New M1 battery takes five minutes to reach 90 percent capacity
http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/1...tart.html?pg=9
This new battery will make electric cars a reality and allow you to recharge it and your laptop and your phone/pda in less than 5 minutes. David. |

That's really cool. I can't wait to see where this technology goes

"A123's real target, however, is your car. Chiang says A123's cells could lighten a Toyota Prius' 100-pound battery by as much as 80 percent and help boost any hybrid's performance. The quick recharging time - the M1 takes five minutes to reach 90 percent capacity - plus high peak power also would be ideal for plug-in versions of gas-electric vehicles. With a bit more research, the world's roads may someday see fast, zero-carbon autos that zip past gas guzzlers and tank up from the grid faster than a rest-stop Starbucks can serve you a latte."
Sweet.

This is funny, everyone screams about how horrible it is that we don't have more electric cars but there is only four posts regarding the technology break through that will make electric cars feasible.
You'll be able to pull into any fuel station and "gas" up in the same amount of time as you do now and drive just as far. One of the problems with electric cars now is that not many people would be willing to drive cross country in one. Much less across Arizona or Nevada. Now you would be able to "fill up" at the very same gas stations as everyone else and just as quickly. David. |

Yah, but how long will it take to actually be used, if ever?

If it doesn't involve gas guzzling or buying a $5 pack of AA batteries, people don't want it anyway.
Even if you don't believe in global warming, the fight against it is creating products that save us a LOT of money. Yet nobody takes advantage of them. |
