Camera lenses for the Canon EOS 20D
I'm trying to find a good lense for model shooting for my Canon EOS 20D.
So far I've had 2 models recommended to me: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search and http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...Search+Froogle Can anyone recommend either of these or a better lense for a comparable price?

Everyone will jump in here saying the f2.8 24-70mm.
It's a nice one. The 50 is also fun. f1.8 makes for creamy DOF |

I'm far from being a photography expert, but why would you put a $100 lens on a $1.5k camera?!
I would think for shooting content, something like this would be closer to what you need: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0602/06...fs1755f28g.asp

Uno, if you want a good "walk around" lens get the a 24-70mm 2.8 (Sigma performs 90% of the Canon version, but it's 1/3rd the price). Another decent one which offers fairly good bang for the buck is the Canon 28-135 IS. You can pick up a Canon 50mm 1.8 for under $70, so that's a gimmie even if you're rarely gonna use it.

I have this lens on my 20D and I love it for portraits
I have the 20D and thousands of dollars in lenses. This cheap one makes the best portraits hands down. Fixed lenses are always better ;)

24 - 70 will do the job .. it's a ggood all around lens .. If your ready to invest and want a kick ass lens, a 18 - 200 would be my choice .. we got the new nikon one for the D200 and loving it!

If you have a little money to spare, and have time to wait for it to come in, get the 35mm 1.4L.
You will never regret it. Never. I hesitated for months before getting it and wish I hadn't. Almost every review I've ever seen on it gives 10/10 - the one caveat is price. |

My first lens on my Canon EOS 30D was this one CANON 28-105mm / F4.0 - 5.6 USM Lens
But it's piece of shit. If you are talking about Canon EF-S 17 - 55 mm F2.8 IS lens ![]() it's good for Canon EOS 300D, 350D, 400D, 20D and 30D because it has EF-S mount and this lens will be 17-55 without crop factor and Fixed f/2.8. But the price is $1150. It's beter get the CANON EF 24-70 mm f/2.8 L USM it's price is $1375, but it's the best lens for Canon in this range. ![]() ![]()

I looked at this when I was in japan, and went for the 50. On the 20D, the 50 will be an 80mm lens, so you have a perfect portrait lens right there. For wider scenes, you need and EF-S lens that can do wide angle - perhaps the one Woj suggested, or even the 11-24 [from memory] Honestly, if you've got the 20D and you're not buying Canon lenses, and Non 'L' series lenses, you're putting bad glass on your camera. Simple as that. |

Uno, I have the 24-70 mm f/2.8. You're welcome to come by and try it out with your girl to see the results you'll get before forking over the cash.

Agree with this, I use this Tamron and have rented the 24-70 and 28-70mm Canon L lens and the Tamron is very comparabale. Maybe a slight loss in bokeh that's all.

I have the 50m 1.8 great lens regardless of price, 24-70L 2.8 is the best zoom to use, keep in mind the bigger the zoom, the more lens it needs to get closer to the model, so that give you less quality. to put it in lemans terms put on one pair of glasses then put 3 more on top of that one pair, are you gonna see clearer cause you have more glasses?
to get the best quality out a lens, take the smallest f-stop like 2.8 then add 3 stops (f4.0 is one, f5.6 is two, f8 is three), So f8 is the best aperture to use a 2.8 lens, that why the lower the better. |
