Techie problem - video not showing up through S-video but desktop does - ideas?

My desktop shows up on the tv when I hook my laptop up to it, but the actual video window in media player is just a black box on the tv, even though it is playing normally on my computer screen. Anyone know what causes this? A few days ago it was working great, which makes it even stranger.

    Thanks for any input!

has anything changed? screen size? Cloning type? Same media no longer working? Codecs up to date? What have you tried?

Screen resolution / settings are all the same, and yes, even the same media file that worked before is not working now. Also, I have tried multiple different media player programs and all of them show the blank black screen now on the tv while playing properly on the desktop. Weird!

Maybe a Windows setting was accidentally changed but I can't seem to find anything.

Not sure if this works, but worth a try:
Tools / Options / Performance - Lower Video Acceleration

        In Microsoft Media Player
