what are the most common ways and how do u detect cheating?

how do you tell that they are using them?

im using autorank php so it shows cheat attempts, would those bothit and proxies show up?

and what does it mean if you see one ip number showing as a cheat attempt on a number of sites in your DB, does that automatically mean all those sites belong to the same owner or can it mean that a search engine bot has visited your toplist through links on all those sites?
