Do female dogs hump legs? I need dog owners in here please. lol
We just got her last Wednesday. She is a riot. The other day she started humping my wifes leg. Is this normal? I looked online but couldn't really find an answer. From what I've read, people say it's a dominance thing. Has anyone ever had their female dog do this to them? It's very funny.
Here she is, her name is Honey. ![]() |

My female spayed 2 year old pug humps my 8 month old male neutered pug. I mean completely mounts him from behind and humps away. I have NEVER seen that in a female before. Maybe they're trannys!!

Here's a reply I found on vetinfo4dogs.com
There are several possible explanations for this behavioral change. Mounting behaviors occur due to sexual hormone influences, dominance behavior, anxiety, and sometimes as a sort of obsessive/compulsive disorder. Spaying a female dog will sometimes result in an increase in testosterone influence, if they produce androgenic (testosterone-like) hormones at higher levels than most females and then the suppressing effect of estrogen is removed due to spaying. This can cause an increase in aggressive or dominance behaviors and that can mean that mounting (humping) behaviors will occur. It is possible to test for hormonal levels and to get an idea whether this is the problem, if that seems necessary at any point. Since there is are two new pets in the household, your dog may just be attempting to show dominance over it, not really recognizing that the cat probably has no clue what that sort of behavior means but that it is natural in the relationship with the new puppy. This sort of behavior will often settle down rapidly once the cat objects sufficiently and the puppy gives in and shows acceptance of a subordinate status. That isn't always the case, but there is at least some chance for it. Whether or not you should be concerned is hard to say. This is actually relatively normal behavior unless it does get so prevalent that you have to consider an obsessive/compulsive or anxiety based cause. In those cases, there are medications that can help, such as fluoxetine (Prozac Rx) or clomipramine (Clomicalm Rx). Most of the time medications are not the answer. It is OK to discourage this behavior, if it doesn't slow down, using distracting commands such as "sit", "here", "down", etc, or by using a head-halter type collar and stopping the behavior each time it starts by controlling your dog with the halter. If you just got her, I would guess that it's a domination issue. She might be trying to establish her place in the dominance hierarchy of your family. Firmly correct her behavior but let her know she is part of the family (pack) but she is last in line.

Girl dogs want to be the alpha because that's how it works in nature.
You're going to have to teach her her place in your home or she's going to be a terror.

My female basset tried that with our cat. he bitch slapped her and that put and end to that. So now she humps my former gf's teddy bear.
I don't stop her because at least she can feel dominate over something ![]() My male bassett will hump anything, he has a fondness for the neighbor's Christmas deer ornament(The deer is laying down)

Yo dude, this is perfectly normal.. Your dog is just trying to show dominace over your wife.. My dog did it when she was a puppy.. She'd hump legs and her dog bed.. Just gotta show em who's boss and it'll stop.. Could be hard for your wife since most women can't control dogs worth poop for some reason. I dunno just my two cents..

Yes... Mounting and "humping" can be a dominant behavior, not just a sexual one.
