What to do after your dog passes away?

Well last night I had to put my dog of 9 years down from his 6 month battle with a form of encephalitis. I'm pretty much a total mess and will probably be for a little while. Despite my non-belief in the whole heaven thing, I do hope I'm wrong and that I get to see him again someday.

Now I'm wondering what others have done after their dog/pet passed away. He is being cremated by himself and I was thinking of getting a nice ern or something but had no idea where to even look. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Heaven and hell don't exist so don't bother thinking about that. Buy a puppy in 6 months, and not one of those pathetic little yappy breeds, get a border collie.

All of my pets living with me have died. No more for me. If I do I will get my salt water tank going again. Can't stand the pain and loss..Grieve the loss of your pet and see how you feel in time. I just had my cat cremated. He was an old man. Like 15 years old. I have a dog but he's with my dad.

Just do not resort to taxidermy. My step grandparents did that and I will tell ya that dog freaked me out.

Id imagine the cremation people have info on urn people. I would reason to bet they will attempt to upsell you.

Awww I am so sorry for your loss! I have a dog who I love so much I take her with me when I fly up to San Fran to visit the corp office! Take time to grieve and know it is ok to be sad you lost a big part of your life! I do hope in time you will be able to remember your dog without the sadness and in time you will know if it is right to get another one. I can't even imagine loosing my dog although I know someday I will ugg....

My condolences..hope this helps a little
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

There's a little marble tombstone beside the house we bought. It reads "My Beloved Mitty" and has the dates she lived. Thought it was kind of nice. If I had a dog, I'd probably bury it right next to that one.

My 13 year old Aussie Cattle Dog had to be euthanised about a month ago. I cried. A lot. For a while.
