The technology is out there for $0.00 per mile... they're just milking every cent out of fossil fuels for as long as they can.

which isn't bad considering you never have to spend 1 cent at a gas station to fill the tank unlike if you bought a $100k gas powered sports car which would cost you another small fortune in gas alone. So, in reality, the $92K+ you pay for this car pays for itself in the long run.

The bad thing is it only gets 250 miles per charge... until fast-charge stations are created and available nationwide it really limits where you can go with one.

(and atm, fast-charge stations waste a shitload of energy, so you would see that '1 cent per mile' grow tremendously)

you need to change the cell out !

I would have to drive it before I would even consider a battery car. Petal to the metal is one of the few PURE pleasures in life. I'll walk before I drive around in some Flintstones mobile...

How fast is it?
Zero to 60 mph in about 4 seconds with a top speed of over 130 mph*. But this is not the whole story. Because it has no clutch and a very wide, flat torque curve, the acceleration of the Tesla Roadster is much more available to enjoy: just step on the accelerator and go - no matter what speed you are driving, no matter what gear you are in, the acceleration is instantaneous.

That's fucking nice ... but i wonder where you would get it serviced and what it would cost .. but for $100k it's a sweet car .. I drive about 50 miles a day so one charge would last Monday-Friday .. sweet .. and if you charge at night it should be just fine ...

i don't know what your commute is like, but I don't go 250 miles in an average WEEK, much less day

of course it isn't a road trip car, but would you really wanna go road tripping in that small of a vehicle?

Ah of course, electric cars are only for going grocery shopping or impressing a tree hugging hippie over by the local park.

Anyways, I travel out of state from where I live to Texas and back again a number of times each year. It's about 420-450 miles there. That's hardly a road trip but completely kills my ability to get there in a timely manor.

Until fast-recharge stations are built these vehicles will never really catch on, in fact I'd say that's one of the top three reasons these cars have not caught on yet in the general public.

then that vehicle is obviously not for you

just like a hummer is not for me

we all have preferences, and an electric car is not one of yours

btw, you need to see Who Killed The Electric Car......the fast recharge station has nothing to do with why they didn't catch on....california has them EVERYWHERE, and electric cars were released in Cali, but they never caught on because no one told anyone they were available, and by the time people realized they could get one, the car companies pulled them back in and stopped making them, claiming "lack of interest"

the interest is there, the car companies have no desire to feed that interest though, if they did they would lose out on their multi-BILLION dollar parts and service industry

The car does 0 to 100 KM in four seconds and tops out at over 200 KM an hour.

Who will service my Tesla Motors car?

Tesla Motors will. There will be Tesla Motors Customer Care Centers in our five key markets (Northern California, Southern California, Chicago, New York, and Florida), offering direct sales and support for buyers and owners.
Quote:
How much service does the Tesla Roadster require?

Far, far less than gasoline-powered cars. Most cars require service every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. The Tesla Roadster has no motor oil or oil filters to change, no smog equipment to check, no air filters to replace, no power steering fluids to refill. We feel confident that the only service your Tesla Roadster will require for the first 100,000 miles is tire and brake inspection. But we?ll be happier to see you once a year or every 25,000 miles or so, just to check in.

Furthermore, unless you live in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Miami, if your Tesla Roadster breaks down, you?ll have to ship it at your cost to one of these cities for repair. Given that the last time I had a car shipped from Ohio to Washington it took a month, I?d expect that every time a Tesla breaks, it?ll be off the road for a long time.
if you live in any of those cities, they have repair facilities, if not, don't buy it...haha

btw you all

to me, sometimes the initial first offering of something like this isn't about the wow factor so that tons of people will purchase it, it is more about the innovation and proof that positive things like this are on the horizon, and much closer than they used to be

with this tesla car brings in a new wave of invention and innovation that we will see tons more of in the next 5-10 years

also, this is the most advanced and most innovative electric car to date, imagine what we will see in 3-5 years

well, considering I went out all day shopping today, plus helped a friend move, and didn't even drive over 50 miles, I think most people (other than you who obviously drives 400 miles a day) will be all right

The real question is, will it be able to make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs?

Great car ,But Who has enough time to let it charge. If there were Quick Charge stations all over the place it would be a great investment.

Interested in reserving
a Tesla Roadster?

We "sold out" of our flagship 2007½ model year Tesla Roadsters in just four months. But it's not too late to get one of your own. We’re accepting reservations for 2008 models now.
