WB problems with my D80 - Anyone have this problem?

When I go to set a manual white balance, it will not lock in a "good" reading and always says "no good" UNLESS I back way up and then it will not wb on the card and the colors get off.

Is there a trick to getting it to WB up close? I had a D70 and had no problems with it.

Thanks.

All nikons have WB problems, that will never change, set your WB the best you can and then correct the balance in a photoshop action and just use that everytime.

DWB, love Nikon's but they for sure have some WB issues. I recently upgraded from the D70 to the D200 and there is an improvement but not much. Couple things I recommend.

Shoot in RAW mode, use photoshop to set correct color temperature and batch process across the images.

I have also had success with using an EXPODISC. Still use it when I am not shooting in RAW mode. I get close to perfect WB every time.
