Sponsors - Put my Zango Tool on your site!

This is an offer for the bigger sponsors out there who don't have an affiliation with 180 Solutions.

I am offering to compile my Zango removal tool, branded with your company name for free, to offer to your affiliates to host on their sites, or tie into an .htaccess page.

I dont expect to get a lot of requests for this, but at this point in time, it might be good publicity for sponsors to not only advertise their lack of affiliation with Zango, but offer to help in the fight.

The offer is open, free of charge, if anyone is interested.

That is VERY dangerous. You know zango is going to see this and will find ways around it. I hope you're going to update your removal tool regularly to reflect all the changes, new files vs old files, registry entries, etc.

We just did this on our sites. All you do is setup something to detect "zango" in the USER_AGENT header, pretty simple. Alot better then the .htaccess route i think, sinceyou are just warning them they have it and giving removal instructions instead of redirecting them off your site mysteriously.

i noticed the tool is over 300k whats in it thats so big ? just graphics or ?

why not paste the source code or explain a bit about what it is.. zango has been hitting the circuits telling people we are unfairly and falsely targetting them. might help if you disclose how and what it does

Smokey,

you were the one mentioned several times as a person who should review the code of this tool, and verify it as a trusted person. I will send you the full source and a link to the freeware compiler I used if you want to check it out, and you'll see it's on the up and up. If you want to do that, email me jcmnetmedia at gmail

What it does:

Deletes the following folders:

thisfile2 := 'C:\Program Files\ZangoClient';
thisfile3 := 'C:\Program Files\Zango Applications';
thisfile4 := 'C:\Program Files\Zango Games';
thisfile5 := 'C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\ApplicationData\Zango';
thisfile6 := 'C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Start Menu\Programs\Zango';
thisfile7 := 'C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Start Menu\Programs\Zango Games';

And deletes the following registry keys:

reg.DeleteKey('SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Run\zanu');
reg.DeleteKey('SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Run\zanu');
reg.DeleteKey('SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Run\Zango');
reg.DeleteKey('SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{E5B57AB3-15F8-43A2-ABAC-3E58A9C25818}');
reg.DeleteKey('SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{21B4ACC4-8874-4AEC-AEAC-F567A249B4D4}');

reg.DeleteKey('SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Uninstall\Zango');
reg.DeleteKey('SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Uninstall\zanu');
reg.DeleteKey('SOFTWARE\zanu');

And the software will be updated as Zango Changes it's methods.

As for using other spyware blocking tools, that's a great idea too. I think more sponsors should be thinking about this possibility.

You can't assume that C (or even those paths) will always be used. If it's possible, you probably need to check the registry keys etc. to discover where it's really installed.

I thought about that as well, and in the next version I'm likely going to put a search function in that scans the hard drives for certain executables. Thats a good idea to use the registry as the index though, I may go that route as well. Thanks!

Also, process control is another thing I have to put in the new version. Lets face it, 180 is going to change the Zango Software to get around programs like mine, so it will need to be updated anyway. Bastards.

Missie I'm really confused. How do you suggest we fight Zango, by hiding in a cave and whispering?

Yes I know they will fight against it, but by keeping quiet they have nothing to fight against.

I'm confused too.

I'm quite pessimistic on the chances of getting rid of Zango but I have chosen to try to focus on and encourage any attempts at positive yet maybe imperfect solutions proposed from whatever angle, not shoot them down in flames as Missie seems to do with any ideas apart from lawsuits.

I don't shoot any solutions down in flames. Anything to fight these scums is good. And I have NEVER pushed lawsuits from affiliates against adware. If you read any of my posts, I've always said that affiliates wouldn't win these cases against adware. The only ones who have any chance at all at winning are sponsors.

But when you think you've come up with solutions, you also have to look at EVERY ASPECT of how adware works. Most people here didn't even know that a popup was not needed to overwrite cookies with zango. So you don't see a popup on a site, it doesn't mean that the site is safe from it. You HAVE to test that part too. Once you've tested every phase of it and you come up with nothing, then you know you've got something. You (not necessarily "you" but I mean "you" in a general term) can't do a half ass job and claim that you found a solution. It just doesn't work that way. Either you do it right and test it from every angle or you don't do it at all. I was just pointing out the other angles to you.

A solution is only a solution when you know it works. For however long, it doesn't matter, as long as it works for a little while.

Missie your style of constructive criticism happens to differ from mine, no big deal.

Any idea will be improved by feedback. It's just an unavoidable situation that "the enemy" (as in Zango, not the Romans) is no doubt listening as you pointed out and will be working much harder to come up with anti-anti stuff.

I redirect all Zango infected surfers (?), to a sponsor I trust, with my affiliate code in it. And counting them. And it is MANY. I was surprised. And it is good quality visitors as well. Realising how many signups stolen does make my fur to rise!

It's not so much constructive criticism OzMan, it's to make sure that all angles are covered before calling it a solution. It doesn't help anyone to be overly positive and skip mandatory steps in the process just to realize in the end that the solution never worked from day one because the adware program did things you didn't know it could do. In order to find solutions that ARE solutions, you have to understand at least how it works and what it can do.

And rest assured that any and all adware companies monitor places where they are mentioned and discussed. If they don't have their own reps present, they have snitches.

It doesn't hurt to try. My solution is not the "final solution" to Zango, and neither is any other. I dont know what the end-all will be if thier is one, but at least we're working on it.
