UFC 65: Hughes vs. St. Pierre

Tomorrow night is UFC 65 and the main event is the rematch between Champion Matt Hughes and #1 contender G. St. Pierre.

I know Matt submitted him very quick in the first fight, but that was a long time ago and both fighters have come a long way since. Not sure GSP can beat the champ this time, but I do see that GSP is the future of this division because of his age and skill.

Big fan of both these guys so not sure who I will be rooting for but it is sure to be a good fight.

Anyone have any thoughts on how this will go?

I feel the same way you do ... I'm having a hard time picking a side on this one. in the ultimate fighter show Matt did come off as a bit of a dick so maybe a loss will put him in check a bit

Yeah I agree about the show and how he came off. Its strange to me because we have been watching this guy (Matt Hughes) for years now before, after, and during fights and he has NEVER come off as anything but a really down to earth farm boy. But in the show he really came off looking like a dick. Maybe some creative editing???

I mean even in the live interview they did last Sat night he was very polite, soft spoken, and proffesional even complimenting GSP several times when he didn't have to.................

Who knows!! It will be a good fight thats for sure!

hughes looked like shit in his last fight, this might be St. Pierre's time
Then again, franklin's loss might have snapped hughes into reality and pushed him to train harder...

fuck it, it's a tossup...can't wait to see it

4th round TKO win for Hughes, or GSP knocks him out sometime early in the fight is my prediction.

The only real advantage GSP has is his striking. Matt's combos suck and he doesn't have KO power in him, GSP does.
If GSP can stop the take down(which he probably can with his strengh and speed, atleast in the first few rounds) and land his shots it'll be a rough night for Matt.

But if GSP can't finish or atleast wear Matt down in the early rounds I think the advantage will start to go to Matt.

Should be a great fight, can really go either way.

Matt didn't submit him quickly last fight. In fact Matt was loosing on the score cards, GSP was ahead.

Not taking anything away from Hughes, the step around armbar defense from the Kimura was beautiful, and is a testament to Hughes BJJ skills.

It is going to be a war.

I would love to see GSp win. I am just not sure he can pull it off. I will be cheering for him. I would also like to see Monson beat Silvia. It should be interesting to see a real short guy fight a real tall guy. In my opinion, Silvia is over rated.

                    Can't wait for the fights!

hard to pick against hughes, but GSP is the only one in that division in the UFC that has any shot at beating Hughes at all. If he fails, Hughes will continue to be the champ for a very long time

                            St. Pierre will win.

He did not sleep at all before the first fight, admitted Hughes was his idol and choked in the ring. He gave the fight away with an easy mistake.

This won't happen this time because St. Pierre lost a lot of respect for Hughes. This time it will be a fair match mentally and physically.
