Copying own CDs 'should be legal'

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) is calling for a "private right to copy".

It would decriminalise millions of Britons who break the law each year by copying their CDs onto music players.

Making copies of CDs and DVDs for personal use would have little impact on copyright holders, the IPPR argues.

illegal here in australia too , soon to become legal under the Free Trade agreement that we are signing with America , but under the fta we lose alot of freedoms too , eg: the sony rootkit , the fta would make it illegal for a person to disect the rootkit and find out what it does
