because chances are php works best, btw I can code you one no problem, but I think you will save money by just getting a prebuilt script, if you still want to go the custom route let me know

I have tried quite a few. It depends what you are looking for.

If you want one that has a database for all your products etc then I think one that has best price/feature set is http:/www.x-cart.com and it is totally customisable.

If you dont need a database then there is probably others that will be cheaper.

as a non-technical client they should not necessarily be naming which technologies to use. too many people get ideas from reading newspapers and resumes and think java, xml, .net, j2ee and oracle are the only way to go.

people should explain what they want, maybe name a preferred technology (or if there's a reason a specific one should be used..)

you don't need to preach to the choir here, you don't have to sell me on php, php is all i do and all i recommend. and if people want perl, hit up a&h. people have heard the php pitch over and over, no need to praise php again.

hehe, you said .net....

hit www.freshmeat.net, why pay for shit
thats free?

(i think i need to start a 'mysql isn't a real db ' argument again...don't get me wrong, i think it is, but some people swear by oracle/informix/sybase....'course, those same people tend to be selling said dbs...)

depending on the technical level of the person you argue with, they might be right mysql doesn't pass the acid test, it isn't considered to be a full rdbms by many people. but it works great for most this shit, it's fast, and the price is right

http://www.buildpage.com it's written in coldfusion, but we host the shopping cart pages :)

has full accounting/inventory management backend, secure transactions, etc. The new version will be integrated with UPS and FedEx for seemless tracking of packages

plus, the warmth of heart in knowing you're putting money in SykkBoy's pocket ;))))
