				Strange windows happenings (windows xp)

Randomly at times, I'll open IE, and nothing but the location bar is showing. I can type whatever I want, it won't process and attempt to connect to the URL. Same goes for anything explorer-related. I'll try to open for example "My Documents" and hear nothing but that annoying windows "boink" sound. Photoshop will also often have issues such as when trying to "save for web". You click it, and it just doesn't show up (the dialog box and so forth for save for web). I thought this was registry-related, ran reg mechanic to no avail, lavasoft adaware found nothing, avast anti-virus found nothing as well. Has anyone had these strange happenings before? Note, when I use Mozilla it works like a charm. So maybe this is just something within windows explorer itself? Any input appreciated.

I use dreamsubmitter and IE 7 fucks with it, so that's not an option unfortunately.

Possibly something running in the background is maxing your memory?

Try going to Start > Run > msconfig > Startup and unchecking all non-essential programs.

look in your processes running for msmsgs.exe

To disable it for good go to RUN and enter this command: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove |

it may not be your problem but i had to remove google toolbar shortly after the lastest update because my windows ie and explorer started acting a fool whenever I had more than a couple of browsers open.

erm kinda related but on one of my other computers, windows media player will play pretty much anything but wmv files...my windows movie maker also doesn't work with them.

I've tried reparing, updating etc.. it's just totally weird that the one file type it doesnt play is the file it was made for lol...
