How to find out which codec I need...

I've just downloaded an "AVI" movie that I can't see...

What do I need to do to find out which coded I need to download to be able to see it???

God, I feel like such a about such newbie about asking this but I'm drunk and for some reason I can't it find out on my own... Can you help me?

Do a Google search for GSpot. It will identify what codecs it uses.

Alternatively, install DefilerPak - it'll play about 99% of programs and isn't bloated and crashy shit like K-Lite.

ditto...you just drag and drop the file into GSpot and it tells you which audio and video codecs you need and loads of other info...

I use this http://avicodec.duby.info/

You tell it what file it is and it tells you what codec you need for audio/video and links to the site where you can get it.
