Windows Media File Editor for OS X? - GoFuckYourself.com

Do any Mac users know of a program that will join and index (Title, Author, Copyright, etc) WMV files? I am sick of booting up my PC just for this purpose. I know you can do it with Flip4Mac, but it requires you to export the file again, I want something faster.

Hi Aico

I only use WMV as a final destination. I do everything in Final Cut & Quicktime. Once everything is totally done, I kick em out to WMV. It's a horrid file format to work with. We only use it because it's what surfers want.

Thanks, but I am talking about videos I didn't make that are already in WMV format...

yep, only solution, and it's alot slower than just doing it on a good pc, I have done it both ways.

If you've got Flip 4Mac your wmv's are opening in Quicktime. You can open your series of clips, and copy/paste them into one long movie. If you've got the Producer version of Flip you can export them as wmv's or whatever you want.

Yeah ... I've got a $499 Dell here that's just for encoding. It's a lot faster and it frees up my Mac to work on. Use TMPGEnc and Windows Media Encoder 9 and that's it. It doesn't connect to the internet.

There's no faster, easier, or better way to do it on a Mac. You either use flip4mac, or hack the shit out of an export with mplayer.. which is a lot geekier, and still slow.

Dude, you've got to export them or at least "Save As ..." your resulting file. That's going to take at least few minutes no matter what. Which I believe you can do with Flip4Mac. Just copy-paste them together and save your file.

Even though I use my PC just for editing.. I can't seem to get desired file sizes and qualities.. since we are all MAC guys we can share, What programs do you use on your PC to edit, and what setting do you save as? there are so many settings and codecs and stuff for WMV's.

Dude, I know how to make videos, been doing it for about 15 years, but thanks.

I am talking about a Indexing the videos, changing the file info such as Title, Author, Copyright, Description, etc. You can do it on a PC using Windows Media File Editor and click Save and Index and it's done, on a Mac you have to Re-export the file as a WMV because when you click Save As in Flip4Mac it will only save it as a MOV file. I also know you can copy and paste segments, but again, you have to Export it again, with a Joiner you do not have to do that.

hehe I breazed right past that part of the post.. no clue how to change the index info without re-exporting it

I don't use the PC to Edit, I use the Mac to do all the editing. Depending on the project I use one or a combination of the following: iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and After Effects, then to compress I use Cleaner, and I doubt many people will share their settings, but in Cleaner you can do fine with their default settings, maybe tweek them a little for your liking. Just make a 10 - 30 second video clip and play with it until you get the results you like.

Cleaner huh? I've tried that program about every year since it came out in the 90's and it never does the job right. Maybe it's time to try again, been about a year since I tried last.

So if you are using cleaner, are you exporting MOV's from Final Cut into Cleaner, and then batch rendering them in Cleaner as some sort of MPEG? Which MPEG setting would you use for galleries and tours?
