WHat is the best/easiest and safest remote control software?

Hi,

My dad will have cable access soon as well, and that's where the problems will start for me

I think it's much easier to get access from my pc to the other computer, then telling what to do.

What is the best remote softare for this?
And can you do almost everything with that? Like changed outlook settings etc?

What do you recommend?

Thnx
Andre

One that I have founf very easy to use is Win VNC.
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/

The nice things about it are
1) It's free
2) It is completely cross platform. You can control your windows box from a Unix box, or control Unix from windows.

The downside of it is that it is sometimes a bit slow on refreshing displays when you are over the internet. But I use it to do exactly what you are trying to do- help my father muddle his way through using a computer.

Cheers.

Damon

Use a loooong ass password your father would NEVER remember. m3ASOv9jf4Utz6 will do. I think in windows xp there's something called terminal services you can use that's apparently MUCH faster and efficient than VNC.. I've always used VNC in the past though.

XP terminal service works quite well indeed better than VNC
or pcAnywhere..... I have used all 3 in case itīs not available
on your machine...VNC is a good replacement but you DO have
to install somekind of firewall service to restrict access on VNC
ports...it also installs a httpd server which can be used to access
your dadīs machine by webbrowser through java applet...

Now you donīt want people playing with that now do you?
hehehe

Yep I've been using it for years....For online Maint.

To be REAL secure.... just put in a call back number...
the only thing about that is then the person you call
Will have to pay for the call....

What it does is you call there computer...
login with user name and password...your computer
and calls your computer back hangs up... Example.... you live in
Dallas Texas your dad lives in New York... according to user name and password it will call your Texas number... now if you in
Say California and call you dad it will still call your Texas number,
so you would have to have him enter your California number
user name and password.... or you can put a user name in with no call back and cll hime from any were...

You can run his computer,,trouble shoot.... I use it to trouble
some Truck Scake software I have in around 30 sites...

I can weigh trucks from my office in California
and the Scale is Houston, TX... print the weigh
ticket... of course they have to tell me the truck number on the
scale....

Wow that's small program! Only a few MB's. And free to use first month.

I think I will try that one.
You have good experiences with it yourself?

Yes, I use it to run my whole network at home. I never have to get out of my chair. Plus I use it to run my network when I'm at my cabin over a dial-up.
