That is a pretty slick layout. I've seen similar on layout sites, so I'd grab one from there and modify it to my needs. Prepare yourself for css hell if you want to get too far from the original.

Oh, something else I just remembered... some of the layout sites have scripts for ripping layouts from existing pages - that might be the way to go.
