Conspiracy Theories:

Almost every signifcant event has one or more conspiracy theories attached to it.

For all of you people that have bought into any conspiracy theory about any event, name me one that has been proven to be true.

I personally do not know of any that have been proven to be true.

I think members of PETA stole $1.1 Trillion from the US Defense Dept and are going to use it to build a station on mars to research growing rice that tastes like steak.

Yep.

Now if they'll just stay on Mars, things would really be going well for the rest of us.

People will be surprised when the truth finally comes out about it.
It's only theory to those who don't know....

No potential life-bearing planet lies within reasonable visiting or even communicating distance, so the point is rather moot. I think people waste too much time wondering about it.

I take it that no one knows of a single conspiracy theory that has ever proven to be true?

If this is the case, then conspiracy theories just remain someones off the wall thinking.

According to David Brock's recent book, the vast right wing conspiracy against Bill Clinton was true, and Brock was a part of it. I haven't read the full book myself, but it was a conspiracy theory, and one of the participants in the conspiracy now says that it was true all along. Does that count?

I have not read Brock's book, but I have seen him interviewed several times. He basically did a 180, so his veracity is questionable. He may have wrote the book assuming the 180 would help sell the book.

There was a conspiracy among a group of people that, if I recall correctly, was financed by some billionare, and I think Brock was originally sucked into this, but I don't think that constitutes a "vast right wing conspiracy", but relects the control, through money, of a relatively small number of people.

The Republicans in congress did go after Clinton with a vengence, and I think they certainly talked to one another about strategies.

Since Clinton left office some of them are still after him. Congressman Barr has a 30 million dollar lawsuit against him.

So the "vast right wing conspiracy" is certainly a good candidate.

If it's proven true then it's no longer a theory.

Very astute of you. What has now been proven that was once a conspiracy theory?

The beauty of a good conspiracy theory is that it doesn't need to be proven true. As long the theory in question is broad enough in scope to explain any possible data, a "universal hypothesis" in scientific parlance, the theory will gain some following simply because it can't be proven false.

Example: I had a periodically schitzophrenic friend in my late teens who believed that "the government" controlled certain peoples thought processes through very high flying AWACS type planes. How do you disprove that? You can't prove the non-exsistence of an aircraft you can't see, and any alternate disproof you can come up with can be counter explained by claiming that you can't see the truth because your brainwaves are currently under control. Perfect conspiracy theory!

You hit the nail on the head. Paranoid schitzo's are the gullible that believe in these theories.
