Do any of you have a home security system?
Thinking of getting one for my elderly mom and I dont know anything about any companies or what a system costs. I'm guessing it's around a $500 install and $50/mo fee or something like that.
The only one I know are Brinks and ADT from tv commercials and they don't give estimates over the phone, they want to come to your house first. Hopefully none of you have ever had to use one but if you've heard of one being really good or really bad lmk thanks |

Burgler alarm system £100
Co2 fire extinguisher £40 (believe me - you don't want that sprayed in your face - or thrown at you!) I saw a sytem that plugged into your phone line and rang you if something was up - much more fun than letting the police know |

An alarm is a good idea because a thief will just skip the house.
You could ask your mom if she wants a dog also. A house with a dog is less likely to get broken into. A dog will also provide company for your mom & she can walk it and get exercise. |

I think it's more like $25-$40 per month and $250-$350 install. The price is higher if you have more doors & want to protect each, if you want to put contacts on windows (those which are accessible easily from ground level). You should be able to get a nice discount on install, or free install, if you look for deals. You will have to agree to a 3 yr contract to get a deal like that, of course.

It all depends, I have afew cheap mothin censors tied into a regular alarm (noise maker) have that tied into visable cameras that other the other end have a sont time lapse recorder or send it to a hard drive, X10 stuff might look like toys but my stuff has been working great for over a year.
Have a secuirty alarm the best is Brinks and have a brinks shild displayed. Depending how gun trained you are have a gun but if you dont know how to shoot dont bother cuz that nozzel will be shoved up your ass, instead get a bat and a huge bottle of mace and practice if you live on a nice size property a dog should not be hard to maintain get a trained one. kepp low profile will save ya trouble

Never had a security system...never had too. I've got dog that won't let anybody into the yard let alone the house. And she's been trained only to eat food that has been fed to her by my family, will not eat anything fed to her by strangers or food that she finds.
She's the best security I could ever have. Pity the poor bugger who comes across her in the dark.

Don't trust a phone estimate at all. They can't viably give an accurate one that way.
ADT usually is a free install with windows being a tad of charge and you WANT the ground level windows protected, also a couple of emergency buttons in places like the bedroom, and one in each bathroom as well as a room she would use to try to hide in. Make sure the phone lines are protected in steel conduit outside so they cannot be cut. Some local alarm companies will match ADT also. We have one hardwired system as well as a wireless backup, both with motion detectors as well as contacts on every opening on the first and second floor. Hardwire has smoke detectors on each floor that sets off a seperate alarm after a preset time (we set that up abit in case its just the kitchen steam setting it them off lol) We also have security cams for the exterior as well as a couple of interor that lead to a hidden vcr as well. But we bought and installed all the systems as we renovated the house. And simply pay a monitoring fee to a local alarm company that deals with ADT etc alarms. Also have the normal killer dawg, 9mm's and shotguns. |

keep your outside motion detector lights on, and a 12gace under one side of the bed, a tech-9 under the other like me, and always keep your bedroom door locked!
