Nameserver Change on Subdomain Only?
Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to change the nameserver for a subdomain only. For instance, if I owned a domain could I have it point to my main hosts nameserver, while having 2 subdomains each point to a different one?
Don't know too much technically...so please don't laugh too hard if this isn't possible/sounds dumb. Thanks, c-lo

You would need to point your A records on the subdomain to the IP that you want.

First I just want to be clear about what you're asking...
People call fred.domain.com a "subdomain" but most of the time it's actually a hostname You can point the IP of fred.domain.com at anything you like - including another host. That's the A record only though, eg what it would connect to if you tried to load http://fred.domain.com/ If you truly want to delegate a subdomain, that is being able to control the subdomain fred.domain.com, and add/maintain records like blah.fred.domain.com and haha.fred.domain.com then that gets more complicated. |

Hey, thanks guys.
rowan: What I'm trying to do is use a portion of my domain for use with another host. I am trying to set it up so I can use the other host's space, bandwidth, features, etc...just under a section of an already established domain name. I don't want a 3 part blah.blah.blah.com type domain or anything like that...I just want to designate one part of my site to load my pages from a different host (server.) Buuut now that I really think about it...I may just buy another domain. I appreciate the help. later c-lo

'www' is usually just set up as a hostname, pointing to an IP. You can do the same with any name, so you can set fred.yourdomain.com to point to any IP you want - including one at another host...

Contact your host that hosts "example.com" and ask them to create "subdomain.example.com" in their nameservers and point it to the IP address at the other host.
