I agree that kids shouldn't have the ultimate say in what they eat all the time, but a treat once in a while won't hurt them. You also don't want to force your kids to do whatever you want them to at all times, because they'll soon hate you and secretly do worse things than you can even imagine them doing just to not do what you tell them to for once. If you think you have your kids under control at all times, then you can make them do whatever you want until they're 18 and completely rebel and hate you. You'd have to home-school them so they don't get negative influences they can't handle (because you never gave them any options or room to make their own decisions) at school.

The parenting you propose is straight forward, narrow minded and completely retarded. Congratulations! :thumbsup

Your child will be a poor decision maker. They should have a choice.

My child likes oatmeal.

If I didn't eat what was put in front of me,I didn't eat at all

rodney25 10-11-2006 09:39 PM

Either they will eat what's on the table or starve to death.

I told my daughter not to dring Cola because her stomach will turn into crash and so on about other products. She understood and do not eat and drink what is bad.

Children need boundaries. Giving them choices when it comes to their health? I thought that was our job as parents.

What do they know about health?

We can give them choices, such as which would you prefer, broccoli or string beans, but other than that? I don't see how they can make an informed decision when they have no education about healthy foods.

One of my food bibles is: http://www.whfoods.com/

It's my job to teach my child manners, how to keep from killing himself when he's in and out of the house and survival. Sorry, but Burger King is not on the list as a necessity for survival. Learning how to prepare healthy foods, however, is. And, that starts at a very early age.

You could print that on a flyer, hand it out to random strangers, and be reasonably sure it applied to most of the people you handed it to.
