Has the dotcom boom returned?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6036337.stm

I personally don't think so... I think the advertising on the internet has changed a LOT since the early days... and that google have a great advertising machine to match with youtube.

I think they might even go after "branding" advertisers like coca cola, budweiser, airplaine/service compagnies etc (wich are currently not arround much on the net) since they have a real big video audience.

In my head, the boom referred to the mass-media hype of tech stocks.

I remember stories on the news during the boom of people who had never put any money into the stock market rushing into their banks to put down cash on telecom stocks. This hype really built the boom and the result was of course a crash. I sure hope it's not back.

I do know that in the past 12 months there have been lots of new, creative, and exciting ways to make money with technology.

Interesting. This was the topic of my blog today. The You Tube boys becoming overnight millionaires is so like the old days, the heyday of the Internet. On the other hand, I don't see this happening as often as it did in the past and only to much more worthy site developers. During the heyday, a guy could put up a site with a picture of a chicken tap dancing and someone would buy it from him for a million. Those days (thankfully) are gone.

I said a couple of weeks ago in another post that the "Dot Com Boom" was back. I think it's true but in a differrent form.

You won't see a run on the stock market for a new website, but there's going to be big money out there like we haven't seen in a while.

I think it's due to mainstream companies who have nothing at all to sell on the internet learing that it has other uses. Companies are using websites just to communicate to their employees in the field. Doctors are getting xrays for a patient that were done by a former doctor over the net.
This has expaned the income level of those who browse the net and put a net capable computer in their hands. These people spill over into other websites and have created a new flow of buyers.

Plus computer price! My 68 yr old mom just got a lap top for $400, brand new! I would have paid $2000 for it 6 yrs ago! Plus internet cafes.
There's just more people on the net with money and they want more than just porn. So the avenues for mainstream are getting ready to explode!!

I plan on being there...I'm getting out of this shit soon.

It is a prime example of something that everybody here is more than capable of... creativity. If I would have said 8 years ago that a .com with a completely grammatically incorrect two-word name would sell for anything more than the registration cost (and maybe not even that much), people would have said "you're an idiot!".

It's still ALL open. Just because Sex.com or naked.com might not be available doesn't mean that the next "YouTube" or "MySpace" isn't right around the corner. The adult industry has been the impetus for many of the greatest leaps in the internet. There is no reason to change that trend now... I would be very surprised if name-creativity and off the wall branding weren't taken to a new level by all of you... call me an idealist if you must...

Cheers!
