Be careful when listing your car online....
I listed my car on cars.com and autotrader.com.
I got a similar email a couple years ago when I sold my last car. Only difference is the last time the check I deposited came back as counterfeit. Good thing I didn't hand the keys/title over to anyone. I want to fuck with these guys. Maybe I should get the cops involved on this one. Here is the email: HELLO, I am Mr MILLER JOSE from London and i have a client who want to purchase your vehicle and use it for his child dedication and thanksgiving service that will be coming up by next three (3) weeks and we are much impressed with the condition of yours and I am much happy to tell you that after forwarding your vehicle information to my client and deliberation was made about the vehicle price and condition and due to the fact that we are running out of time, I am pleased to tell you that my client has shown more interest on the vehicle and will be willing to purchase the vehicle at the price of ($21,200),But I need a full assurance about the engine, because I don?t want to put my self in shame, I took it up to me to purchase this vehicle from you because my client advise me before he left Holland to purchase the vehicle from America so that he gets the best, so please I hope that I will never be disappointed about the engine and I hope that we will not spend much on cosmetic repairs cost on the vehicle to make it nice for him . I have make a proper arrangement about shipping the vehicle and I have been able to contact the shipper and the pickup agent today and in there response they said that there will be no prepaid space that will convey the vehicle next week, so they assure me that they have reserve a space that will convey the car by next two (2) week?s from the present location of the purchase property to my clients garage in London and I hope that we can conclude all the necessary paper work and finalize the transaction by next week so that they will come for pickup and shipping of the vehicle. The pickup agent will come for an inspection, text and drive in your (HOUSE) and drive the car to the prepaid space that will be booked for the vehicle in shore with an identification card that will prove to you that he is the real person, I will update you on the preview bill of sale and the pickup agent will come with the original copy of it on the day of pickup. Please get back with your full name........., address.........., state......., city......., ZIP code......, country......, telephone no./mobile no.........., for payment the cashier check payment to be made out to you, As soon as I receive the information I will send down the payment that will cover the cost of your vehicle and the shipping of the vehicle and also the cosmetic repair cost that my client has made out before he left, Please your honest and co-operation is highly needed in assisting me and in refunding the balance to the shipper for payoff and tax charges . My client made out a Cashier check of ($27,500) before he travel for a national assignment trip to Amsterdan, the cashier check is for both the cost of the car and the shipping expenses and other related charges such as cosmetic repair cost and tax charges This payment will get to you in that amount because it will cover the cost of the vehicle and the shipping charges and seems the shippers will be coming by next week for paying off and test and drive you have to cash the check and deduct the cost of your vehicle ($21,200) and send them the remaining fund ($6,250) for payoff of the prepaid space already reserve for the vehicle and other equipment, my client also wish to compensate you with ($50) for removing the advert from the site so that there will be no complication from other potential buyers because the vehicle will likely be used on his child dedication and thanksgiving service that will be coming up by next two weeks. Please consider the car sold because I have a full assurance that we are going to close the deal before next week. After You refund the balance for shipping expenses and paper work and the Shipper gets the money, The Pickup Agent will then come for pickup and inspection and text, drive of the vehicle from your residence to the prepaid space booked for the vehicle. The shipper and the pickup agent will be coming to your house by next week for the test drive and as soon they receive the balance they will be there again for he pick up of the purhased property. I will get you updated on when you will receive the payment because it will be sent via registered express mail for safer and faster. Hope to hear from you as soon as possible. Thanks and Regards, MR MILLER JOSE +447024076894

I was selling a guitar on ebay a while back and someone from the UK who registered that day and won the auction sent me a very similar email. I thankfully knew it was a scam and told them to fuck off but ebay wouldn't even cover the fees I had to pay. Since then I have never tried to sell anything on there because it's too risky.

if it wasn't for my neighbor saying to wait until the check clears, i could have easily been a victim. i was pretty desperate to sell the car. i couldn't imagine the feeling of knowing that i just handed someone 6k, the keys and title to my car.....and never seeing it again. probably nothing i could have done either.
