Any Americans living in Brazil here?

Tell me about living in Brazil. Is it too hot? Is it safe? Where's the best place to live? Rio? Somewhere more rural?

Anyone have experience with living in Brazil?

It's no joke... crime is pretty bad down there. My dad has a friend living down there and he can't wait to get out but he hasn't been able to because of a lack of money

Do you know where he lives? I've heard there are some nice areas of Rio with pretty low crime. What "low crime" means in Brazil, I don't know for sure.

well New York is a dump so I don't know.
I think white people in general have some problems in Brazil. My aunt went there and said she didn't feel safe
(though nothing bad happened)

Heard little kids pick pocket alot and crime is bad.

Since Guiliani cracked down on crime, New York is safe.

I feel safer here than anywhere else! If you stay in the central areas nothing will happen to you. How is someone gonna kill you when there are always 20 people on the street with you walking around!?

Check with me in 5 years though, after seeing that Playboy soccer spread I will be living down there!

Brazil is a great place to live, but I wouldn't live in Rio. Maybe in the Rio de Janeiro State, but not in the city.
I've been there last year, it's a very beautiful city, but I can't see me living there. Maybe it's just me.

I live in São Paulo, the weather sucks.... but I believe I live in one of the best regions of São Paulo.
Well, If you like to eat we're THE CITY, you can find everything from everywhere.

My girlfriend lives in Fortaleza - Ceará. There's always lots of Americans, Dutch, Portuguese and other europeans tourists there. The weather is pretty good (average is 82F I think), and the beaches near the city are fantastic !

Hmm.. our country is too big, I need to sleep to watch the game.

Peace!

Jer

Thanks for the comments! For the person who asked about why I would move from NYC, I'm not in NYC, I'm in Cali. I was just wondering how the crime was compared to another big city like NYC. Again, thanks!

Hi, Jer
Waiting for the match, eh?
I live in Recife, but I am considering to move to Fortaleza, which I also consider the best city in Brazil to live.
I have yet to find someone, either Brazilian or foreigner, who goes to Fortaleza and doesn't fall in love with the city.

The match will begin.

Em duas horas seremos penta. Um abraco.

Hello MrBrian

You're right. Lots of people from Germany and Italy there. In July 2001 I visited Gramado - RS, a very calm and beautiful city. All the cities around there are beautiful. I have lots of pics, I can post them tomorrow, because I need to scan them at my office.

In 07/11 I'm going to the south again, but to another state.
I hope to see some snow there

Oh man, God is brazilian. Our country is very very very beatiiful.
And the girls.... oh.... I'm waiting my girlfriend, she'll come to São Paulo next Friday.

Partying Jer

I think Brazillians are some of the nicest, most friendly people in the world... It's hard to pick out Brazillians from a crowd (so Americans can fit in I think) because it's quite a mix of immigrants that made up their population in the first place... I would consider moving there some day -- but honestly the Portuguese (sp?) that they speak down there sounds very difficult to learn... If you listen to the language it's wierd -- to me it sounds like a mixture of spanish, japanese and babytalk.
