my xbox 360 died!!

I have one of the very first xbox 360's sold... its manufacture date is sept 22 2005. A friend of mine stood in line for 4 hours on its release date to grab it for me.

I never played it much, I doubt it even has 40 hours of use on it.. it had been locking up lately, but now it wont even turn on. Just flashes three red lights at me. I took the hard drive off, unplugged all the cable, plugged it all back in, took the hard drive off again, same shit... three red lights and nothing else

god damn piece o'shit!!!

They just extended the warranty up to a year or something for people that bought a launch 360. Even if someone already paid to have it fixed after it was out of warranty coverage, then they are refunding that.

You probably don't need your receipt, just the serial number. Definitely look into it at xbox.com as you should be able to get that fixed for free.

Actually you might be out of luck by just a couple weeks. If you have the receipt they extend it from date of purchase. If you don't, then they go from date of manufacture. Since yours was manufactured on Sept 22 and you don't have the receipt you might be fucked.

i've got this thing taken apart... theres a little dust in it, not a whole lot but I blew it all out, and its still doing the same shit.

guess I'll kick it in the trash and buy a new core system, I'm sure my warranty that i didnt know was extended is voided now since I took it apart.

Only reason I'm even fuckin with it is because my kidlet got a 360 and I hooked him up to xbox live, and he's always asking me to play games with him online now even though he's just sitting in the next room

Take out the HD, go to EB Games and buy a used one, they only sell used ones without the HDs. They say that they can't sell used HD cuz they will be responsible for what's on it, and if it's porn or something, they'll get in trouble, so they send the HD's back to Microcrap. Wonder what they do with all those used HD's... hmmmmm

Sounds like overheating. Set it them up in a ventilated area, not in a cubbyhole in the entertainment center. Pop the 20 bucks for an intercooler, extra fan unit that clips straight to the back of the machine, It'll save you the grief.

Unit hasnt been on for 2 days, today I hit the power switch and I get the three red lights of death. It couldnt have overheated today because it never got a chance to be on long enough.

Although I think it has overheated in the past... I'd be playing a game like Oblivion or Dead Rising, and it would just lock up after about an hour or so.

There's a manufacturing defect with all the units made before 01/01/06. Doesn't matter if you stick the thing in a fridge, it will eventually die.

i also bought a 360 on launch date and I mailed in the warranty purchase for $55 or something. I just got the Warranty im the mail a week ago I was wondering when it would come since they charged my card the week after I mailed it. Glad I bought it though. Maybe you should have. Heard they will fix any launch date 360's for free.

Mine died after 4 months, made in Feb06. They sent a box and send it back, and then replaced the unit with no questions. Games had been locking up for weeks and then suddenly 3 red lights.

Mine had the same problem. I had no receipt or box, but called them and they sent me a box for shipping, etc. Got a replacement unit in about 2 weeks. No charge.

Just got off the phone with xbox 360 support... since my xbox was built in Sept 2005 they dont care that I've opened the case, they said they will still fix it for free or send me a new one

they are sending out the shipping box to return the console in today - w00t!!

Ya a lot of the launch ones had problems, they lost a lot replacing them. We waited a while for just that reason. Learned our lesson with the PS2 (bought one right on release and had to replace it 6 times over the years). Glad to hear they helped you out though!
