I worked in the car industry for 10 yrs in NY, it was my full time job while working weekends at the titty bars .The F&I guy was the biggest slime of them all and it was expected. Talking about Donny finding Peace,he aint gonna find it working 60-70 hours a week, getting people into cars you know they cant afford,charging the weak interest rates that border on criminal. Getting pay plans changed like the wind. Also I highly doubt your hired from just a phone call unless its someone you know, it doesnt work that way ,its too important of a position in the dealership.

Car Dealerships are good money. I ran 2 internet departments and was GM Certified , Car Smart, Autobytel, etc. A Base is good in the business cause sometimes it can get slow.

:1orglaugh I went to that Darcars place once to give someone else support while they were buying. Long story short, they tried to keep him there super late so he would be too tired to keep saying no to things like undercoating and other nonsense upsells. So, after this has dragged on for many hours and we have once again been left in this tiny cubicle while the guy consults with his manager, I start complaining to the person I am with about their hard sell sales tactics and obvious attempt to keep him up so late that he will roll with anything.

So the manager chick comes storming in, I guess because other customers in other cubicles could probably hear me outlining what I thought their tactics were. She starts telling me that I need to watch my language because she doesn't need to sell my friend a car. Now I know how to cuss with the best of them, but I wasn't saying anything particularly colorful at the time. So I just look at the person I came with and I can tell he doesn't care any more. So I yell "FUCK YOU" and we get up and leave. The chick is actually shocked, like she thought she was going to scold me and that was going to make him buy unnecessary service packages.

You are right about it being awful for the sales guy though. He followed us out to the parking lot and literally got down on his knees. He did his job and the finance guy and the manager lost him his commission. So yeah, I'd have to agree finance guys at car dealerships tend to be more morally bankrupt than smut slingers.

My brother was in the business for a number of years and has some great stories. I played on the company softball team and learned some of their terms, ie spun 'em, laydown, salvageable...

And my ex is doing well in F&I.

I sold cars for a few months several years ago and the finance guys were more hardcore then the salesmen. They made more off of screwing people in the backend, usually then the salesman made from selling the car.

Talk about a stressfull job, most dealerships are run by assholes, even their meetings are straightup.. how do we get more money out of the customer. Very high turnover. Not the job i think would work well for you in your current state of mind. I don't think you are going to like it but you seem to be excited so good luck. Maybe you can offer them a Jesus package if the bite on the first interest rate you offer them :winkwink:

I think that is one of the hardest things to realize in this industry...

If you tell people you make $50K (avg job just out of college/avg job 20 years on the job) they laugh at you and ask when are you going to start making money?

If you make $140K (avg doctor) they say that is a decent "start."

Tell em $250K (avg!!! company president) and they ask when are you going to do something with your life?

Hit a million (less than 2% of America) and they say, "Ho-hum, most ptogram owners do that in a month!"
