This law has nothing to do with freedom of speech. I did, however, read an article where they stated why it was wrong and why the president shouldn't sign it. He will sign it though, but many of the ideals in the article will probably be used in the coming court cases. I can't imagine these big poker companies that are making truckloads of money just sitting by and letting this happen without a fight.

The main thing the article mentioned is that it is a privacy issue. The constitution pretty much tells you that you are free to do as you want in the privacy of your own home. There have even been recent court cases that backed this up. For example, in Texas gay sex is illegal, but there was a guy that was arrested for having gay sex in his house and he fought it and won because the Supreme Court said that the state can't legislate what he does in the privacy of his own home.

If this is the case then they also cannot legislate what I watch, read or listen to and if I want to sit in my house and gamble away my money playing online poker, it it up to me.

The law is also flawed in that it still allows online betting on horses, transactions between Indian casinos and online betting/gambling as long as it is within your own state. So it doesn't outlaw all online gambling, just some.

We need to chill a bit!

We are webmasters with a common interest, avoiding the same shit happening to us that has happened to online gaming.

There is no need to turn this thread bad and start name calling etc..

Lets just talk like civilised pornographers lolol!

Im hardcore atheist, but also hardcore traditionalist.

The united states is successful for a reason, and its no thanks to GAMBLING, WHORES, or anything else thats considered immoral. You want to live like a shithead? move to the slums of america, where such things are rampant. Move to one of the many shit and sad countries dont regulate such things.

Dont try and bring this country down to your level just because you cant earn yourself an honest dollar or a real woman.

Anyway, This law isnt even about morals, its about taxes and money

It is easy to dismiss this, saying it is not a freedom of speech issue. But it is interesting how few people apparently are in the least bit concerned that once again the government in the Land of the Free is denying another personal freedom.

Then again, I suppose that lack of concern is what makes such laws possible...

well.. this law does nothing but move the direction that online casinos will take..

if its affordable for them ..they will pay the Nevada tax, if its not.. they will move to the underground.. where people will be able to buy E-currencies and gamble with them.. to buying Cash cards from your local punk on the street(like drugs.. and other freaky shit)..

god bless capitalism .. god bless america

I dont think anyone here recognizes that its another step towards their own business models - the amount of short sided thinking amazes me

For those of you like to read the article on the ban,

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061002/...partygaming_dc

LONDON (Reuters) - Online gambling firms faced their biggest-ever crisis on Monday after U.S. Congress passed legislation to end Internet gaming there, threatening jobs and wiping 3.5 billion pounds ($6.5 billion) off company values.

The House of Representatives and Senate unexpectedly approved a bill early on Saturday that would make it illegal for banks and credit-card companies to make payments to online gambling sites

I think the real issue is how they slipped it in last minute into an unrelated bill that would be political suicide for anyone to vote against.

They are also going to try the same to eliminate net neutrality. Just wait until your competitor can pay ISPs to make your site inaccessible while promoting their own.

If you don't think that there could eventually be the same situation with adult just look at how they did this.

Added it to the middle of a bill that everyone would support after midnight on a Friday. The way that the US gov did this is very shitty and I'm frankly surprised that you guys here are not more alarmed.
