Chicken and Dumplings
Ok, who here has ever had chicken and dumplings? Do you like them? I was thinking this might be my last meal if I was on Death Row. You can never plan to far in advance...

 | I'm in the South, so I'm all about the chicken and dumplings. My father was sick for many months last year, and that was his favorite thing to eat and one of the last things he could/would eat. I made them probably 2 or 3 times a week. Here's a different twist- I always made them with biscuit dough but I had some at a lady's house that were fabulous and she told me she used tortilla shells. I don't even cut them. I just tear them into dumpling size pieces and throw them in the pot. It's quick and easy and they taste really good. Even my dad liked them and I knew he would be super critical.

But it gets kinda cooked when you make the chicken and dumplings. The perfect ratio is 4:1, dumplings to chicken

see now that one on the bottom looks VERY much like what Pennsylvania Dutch people call chicken pot pie..with more really thick noodles than dumplings. That is like homemade heaven. Especially as all the dutchie women make the dough for the noodles by scratch.

 | Tonda's version is what I'm used to. Chicken pot pie, at least the way we make here in the south, has a crust - like a real pie. I make mine with top and bottom crusts, but some people just make it with a top crust. We also NEVER put veggies in chicken and dumplings. To make them even somewhat healthy would be sacreligious ;) |

 | Somebody please explain in detail what chicken and dumplings are supposed to be. As far as pot pies go, I am the worlds #1 pot pie fan. My dads wife makes a homemade one that is delicious. Otherwise, Boston Market has a great one and its huge (get the corn bread), Marie Callendars puts a couple out of the TV variety (chicken, beef, creamy chicken, and turkey) which is absolutely fantastic, KFC has a chicken one that is delicious and a pretty good price, then if you're out to dinner check out Claim Jumper's for a great pot pie as well. If I didn't have leftover mahi mahi and wild grain rice I'd be eating a pot pie tonight. Like I said, I love my pot pies. :-)
