As many of you know, I have had nothing but problems with the planet. Things have been really bad lately, and right now I've had a server down for over a week, because I'm waiting on someone from sales to contact me to sell me a hard drive because the one on the server failed.
A little background. I've gone through three hard drives in the last year on server 1. Every time it's the same thing, I start getting random lockups, I get nothing in the logs (because the server freezes) and I have to bug the shit out of them to get them to run a hardware diagnostics just to determine it's a hard drive again.
Now I may not have a doctorate in Information technology, but I think if 3 scsi drives go out in a year, the problem may not be the drives. But hey, as long as the customer pays 40 bucks, who cares!
Each time I've had to pay 40 bucks for a new hard drive with OS, and I slave the old drive, and spend hours copying all the sites over. This has also happened on the 2nd server as well, and now it's happening again.
So, I figured it out, and for the month of december, server 2 has been up for about 3 days. I shouldn't even have to pay the month of hosting, you would think, better yet pay for a hard drive to fix the problem. And their incompetent sales staff isnt able to "get back to me" to sell me this drive, so support can put it in.
It usually takes a full day of work to move all of these websites to another server, and I haven't had the time to do this. But when I do, I'm moving to a server on serverprovider.com
As many of you also know, I couldnt let a big moneymaker like messedup.net be down all the time, so last year I moved it to serverprovider, and guess what? I wasnt having anymore "DOS attacks" all the time (which is what the planet kept blaming my downtime on) and my site has been up, fast, and always there when needed.
Server Provider is not paying me or endorsing me in any way to say this, but if you are considering a dedicated server, don't go with the planet/EV1/servermatrix etc. You'll be sorry like me. These people are pathetic and the service is horrible. Any promised uptime is a complete joke. I highly reccomend serverprovider, as they have done a far better job of hosting so far.
I should also point out, that messedup.net gets around 5x the total traffic of the sites that are hosted at the planet, and SP's network doesn't flinch one bit. When I had messedup.net hosted there, everytime it was slow or down, I was being "DOS attacked" and they were so good, nothing showed up in the logs.
Just my 2 cents.
