Seriously. If this is affecting your well-being you should do something about it.

I'd say you're just doing something very stupid there:

When you go shopping and you see a pair of shoes, what do you do?
You imagine yourself wearing the shoes. It feels good. You think about how they would fit to the rest of the stuff you're already wearing. I feels good, too. Then you think about when you're going to wear them. You imagine parties, friends, having a good time. All of this because you bought these shoes. So, quite naturally, you want to buy the damn shoes. I mean, you've been running a dolby digital, widescreen, multisensory commercial for these shoes inside your head. The only thing missing would be that you get a free steak knife set if you order now. But maybe you even do something like that. Something to the tune of "It's a bargain, it won't be available later, they will sell out!" and of course then you'll miss out on all the benefits you pitched to yourself in your own head without a reason. And then you can't stand it anymore and have to buy them even though you don't need them.

I think this is just stupid.

To compare, here's what I do, when I see shoes:

I see shoes when I go shopping. I look at them. I think "I already have enough shoes." Then I walk along.

Why do you run this stupid fucking ad inside your head? Somehow you've been practicing a stupid approach to shopping and by now you've become quite good at it. Have you ever considered just not doing it? I mean, think about the money you'll save. Think about vacations you can go to instead, because you don't buy every shoe you see. Think about the time you can spend on more important things because you're not shopping all the time. I mean, you could have sex instead! When you use my approach to shopping for shoes, there's no temptation and no problem. It's not that hard. Just do something different for once. Try my approach next time and practice it a little.

Go past every shoe shop you know and practice my approach. If you do this every day for a week or so, you will have unlearned your stupidity and can get on with your life.
