NON-ADULT Design... Opinions Please

We're in the process of putting together our non-adult arm here and no group is a harsher critic than GFYers so I figured I'd let ya'll tear it apart before we go through the final editing process. A couple pieces aren't in place yet (some text, portfolio parts and working mail form) but there is definitely enough there to get the idea.

What ya'll think?

http://www.guaranteeddesigns.com/cli...site/main.html

Thanks.

I think it looks great but noticed one thing that kind of (for lack of a better word) bothered my eyes. Your logo is very sharp and vibrant. Your stock photo art is blurred and grainy. This may have been your intention but if you were to sharpen those images up like the rest of the site I think (in my opinion, mind you) it would look much better. I hope this helped in some way Mark.

Thanks for the honest feedback. It is what we were going for - the pics being more of a faded backdrop kind of thing. There's always those handful of things like filter effects and such you can do one of several ways and you compare them and just can't decide which looks best. You show ten people and get an even distribution of opinions... that's when I break out the dorky D&D dice and choose the option I roll on the d8. =]

Oops. =[ Hey I made that loop too! I'm so techno. I think we should try to have it fade in though. I have to work on the scripting ot make that work and then loop.

BTW - how was Xmen 3? I loved the first two.

i like animated effects, but with that music I was expecting site to unfold faster. i think unfolding and music have different pace. i probably don't like the sound track, too acidy(?). design is clean can't say nothing bad about it, except lower paper clip - its out ot place (eg in real word it wouldn't hold anything like that unless it was glued - but that's just how I look at it)

The first thing that came to mind was Template Monster.
Music to me is unprofessional.
I HATE flash intros. No offense but Im not going to sit through a 10 second flash intro before the site loads up everytime I visit your site.
I dont like the "ip" logo. I think a logo should spell out the name of a company, otherwise I wont remember your companies name. Ill remember something about ip or something.

Its a nice clean layout and I can easily find what im looking for so im not trying to be super negative, but youre asking for tough critiques and thats what I thought of it.

No prob I can take it man. This is like the notesheet for edits and stuff we'll work on over the first month after it's live. Thanks for the honesty.

I can def see all your points... the only one I'd debate over is the logo just because I've always been a fan of logos that serve and emblems that stick in your mind quickly like Pepsi or the AT&T "Death Star." Of course they can do that being that it's a worldwide brand and nothing is to say some design co would ever be but my thoughts are usually cenetered around the iconic when doing a logo.

Induces horz scroll on 1024 rez
Music too loud/annoying (for those of us who dont like techno) and unecessary
Top nav and left nav redundant
contact on lower left doesnt have clickable link (email or form)

Thanks man. The contact thing was atop my list of edits too. I think we're gonna go with something more new agey and mello for the sound too. I don't mind the redundant nav though.

Thanks for your input!

honest response:

depends on just how seriously you want to be taken. honestly if you want to be a mid range mainstream designer its good enough to get you there. if you want to be considered one of the highend designers tho, youll need alot more than that. the site itself is nice but to me it has the templatemonster or boxedart cookiecutter feel. thats jus' my opinion tho

Yeah I'm not feeling that it's up there with Blitz or something but I also don't have an NYC development team size office here yet. So I wouldn't want my bark to be far bigger than my bite until we grow into the kind of place where you have one team of people writing copy, another doing storyboards, a runner getting you coffee while we put up all kinds of digital presentations to tell your prospective clients how cool you are and then we are like all those agencies on Entourage and... Nevermind got lost there. What was I saying?

Great Job Mark

If I had to be critical (as I am with my employees). I would say:

1) Clean up the images
2) Animations could be action scripted a little better for a smoother result on PC's with lots of stuff open

Other than that, pretty awesome mark

1. I would pick a different loop -- that music is just plain annoying...makes me feel like i have to hurry up and do something else...it's like the music is trying to hurry my through the visit to the site.

2. "Our Latest Project" blends too much with the design...doesn't look like a unique project I should notice...looks like a design element of your site.

Just my

looks good...

-bad loop.. gets annoying fast
-when someone launches a sample from portfolio, have the music stop
-pictures are blury throughout the site and some are too contrasty

Got the new sound track in. We're working on the sizing now too. I like this track better even though it's still acidy.

Better?

Opinions are like assholes, everbody has one.

Everyone has their own music. Generally they don't want to hear yours.
Looks good. For my old eyes, font could be 1pt bigger.
I would feature your toll free number in the header.

Best of luck.
