Crocop vs. Liddell?

I wonder if UFC would be stupid enough to accept a challenge from Crocop...

Taken from Pride FC's website...

Regarding Wanderlei Silva's participation in the November UFC, Sakakibara reemphasized PRIDE's willingness to fight, "We are ready. We will be happy to do it if the UFC is willing. We've told them that if Silva is unacceptable because he lost in the Grand Prix, then Mirko would be fine, too. Mirko has said that he will fight. Dana White apparently said that PRIDE is running away (from the UFC) but we aren't running anywhere. We are ready to fight. PRIDE is always ready to fight."

No brainer...

Lidell is great but he got OWNED by Rampage...

And Rampage got his ass handed to him by Crocop...

And I just don't see that happening, it would be a bad move by the UFC.

Cro Cop is a K-1 striker. I think he can pick apart Chuck easily. Cop's leg kicks are devastating

Correct me, but I thought it was this route...

Liddel owned by Rampage

Rampage owned by Silva

Silva owned by Cro cop

Very bad move for the UFC.

I would like to see that matchup. I think that Pride has some great fighters, but is falling way behind the UFC. Signing Mike Tyson is a sure sign that they are scrambling in the wake of the UFC's popularity.

Liddell was owned by Couture back in 2003 as well. We all seen how both of those rematches turned out. Plus, Liddell lost to Rampage in 2003 also, since then rampage has had his ass kicked bu Silva, Rua, and a few others. liddell hasnt lost since. I think with enough time to train, liddell could take crocop becuase he always has a puchers chance.

Don't think liddell has a chance? Well, Liddell knocked out Randalman with ease, and Randalman totally destroyed Crocop before.

Everyone has their day!!!!

Fedor is a beast, not Crocop. he's good, but not Fedor good.

You are young enough for Muay Thai, it's a young man's style. Most Pro Thai boxers retire by 26 or so.

Good luck buddy, you already have the shaved head, you just need to train!

Anthony, I think you should name your kid BJJ? It would be tough to explain to his classmates but hell you can look at him and say “you’re the best” without the hint of a doubt..
PS: Sambo has BJJ by its balls

Well if thats the case... Silva beat Rampage, Rampage beat Liddell. Liddell beat Randleman, Silva should beat Liddell, Crocop should beat Liddell cause he destroyed Silva...

MMA calculations never work... Plus when was the last time Liddell fought a decent striker? Rampage?

I have twins, and they both have 2 years in BJJ.

Sambo's game was brought up by BJJ. Before BJJ, nobody knew what Sombo/Sambo was. Both great fighting styles, only difference for sport are the rules.

Important note with regard to mma: If A can beat B and B can beat C, does not automatically mean that A can beat C.

Maybe that because Sambo is Russian and until the fall of Soviet Union nobody out of Russia was allowed to fight outside of Russia. Ever thought of that? Sambo has been around since 1920’s and believe me, that was the sport I grew up with.. BJJ took off when???

"Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu first became internationally prominent in the martial arts community in the 1990s, when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert Royce Gracie won several single elimination martial arts tournaments called the Ultimate Fighting Championships against sometimes much larger opponents who were practicing other styles, including boxing, shoot-fighting, karate, judo, tae kwon do and wrestling."

wow.. talking about making a history.. since 1990's

Ahh, very nice, I'm glad I came back to check this thread before bed.

BJJ was created on or about 1910. Since you grew up with Sambo, then you are aware that the parent martial art are is Judo, right? Same as BJJ.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_Jiu-Jitsu

The major differences before 1993 as per MMA historians is that BJJ was more geared towards the ground game, BJJ had the guard, and you do not get penalized for being on your back. Historically, BJJ only scored 1 point for a takedown, while Sambo was more like Judo, you have the throw, and the pin. Holding down your opponent in Sambo for 20 seconds is 4 points.

Lucky for me, one of my best friends is a Sambo Instructor, and gave me the differences. Again, prior to the first UFC and crosstraining, BJJ had the better positional strategy, with being able to fight on top, and on your back. Sambo, had leglocks which equalize that equation. Imagine back when Sambo came in, and the BJJ guys had one in guard, and the Sambo fighter would just drop right back and slap on a leg lock. It happened alot.

Now come forward to 2006, everyone is now trained in everyone else's techniques, strategies, and it's a different ball game. Sambo guys who fight MMA train the guard, you can see Fedor use it on occasion, and now you also see BJJ guys using leglocks.

Sambo, Catch as Catch Can Wrestling, BJJ, Judo, in MMA it really doesn't matter anymore, it's the better grappler. That's why the new term for MMA grappling is called "Submission Wrestling".

As for nobody knew what Sambo was, I'm sure you are right. Nobody knew what BJJ was till the first Ultimate Fighting Championship. BJJ catapulted all grappling styles to the fore front. You had Wing Chun guys coming out saying they had grappling sets in their "Lost Forms" eons ago. LOL

BJJ is no longer the dominant fighting style in MMA, but it is definately one of the most trained, with the top three being:

1. Wrestling
2. Muay Thai
3. BJJ

Here Camo, you missed this part when you cut and pasted from Wikipedia...

Quote:
jujitsu expert and judoka, prizefighter, and former member of the Kodokan named Mitsuyo Maeda, also known as Count Koma, immigrated to Brazil in the 1910s where an influential businessman named Gastão Gracie helped him get established. In return for his aid, Maeda taught the fighting art of Jujitsu to Gastão's son Carlos, who then taught the art to his brothers, including Hélio Gracie. Hélio had the opportunity to teach a class one day while Carlos was absent. He soon realized that most of the techniques could be adapted in a way to increase leverage therefore minimizing the force needed to execute the moves. Through Hélio's experiments early on, and constant technical refinement in training and real fighting, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as we know it today was created. Some argue that the differences are more in culture and moral goals than in the physical principles and techniques of BJJ; however, the considerable differences between BJJ and the Japanese styles include the use of strikes on the ground, and holds and joint locks forbidden in sport Judo but taught in practical Judo or traditional Jujutsu.

Other contributing factors to the stylistic divergence of BJJ include the Gracie's desire to create a national martial art, the influence of Brazilian culture, the Gracies emphasis on full-contact fighting and self-defense, the post-World War II closing of the Kodokan by the American Occupation Authority (which were only allowed to reopen on the condition that emphasis be shifted towards sport), as well as the Gracies' additions to the body of technique and theories regarding self-defense based on Chinese principles of leverage (admitted in an interview), martial arts and training methods; and, more recently, the influence of mixed-martial-arts competitions such as the Ultimate Fighting Championships and PRIDE Fighting Championships.

Camo,

It's easy to figure out who is more dominant with BJJ or Sambo.

The ADCC (Abu Dubai Combat Club) has a yearly submission wrestling championship.

Here are your winners from last year. Funny enough, there isn't any Sambo in there.

Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling
Under 65K Leo Vieira style BJJ
66 to 76k Marcelo Garcia style BJJ
77 to 87 Ronaldo Jacare style BJJ
88 to 98 Roger Gracie style BJJ
99 and above Jeff Monson style Pankration, BJJ, Wrestling
Absolute Weight Class winner Roger Gracie BJJ

Off to bed, happy reading Camo!

Randalman got that puncher's chance and got Crocop with a punch.

I take it you didn't see the rematch? Crocop choked Randleman the fuck out.

Funny that, a striker doing submissions. Oh wait, Crocop does BJJ under Werdum. Forgot about that.

The ADCC (Abu Dubai Combat Club) has a yearly submission wrestling championship.

Here are your winners from last year. Funny enough, there isn't any Sambo in there.

Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling
Under 65K Leo Vieira style BJJ
66 to 76k Marcelo Garcia style BJJ
77 to 87 Ronaldo Jacare style BJJ
88 to 98 Roger Gracie style BJJ
99 and above Jeff Monson style Pankration, BJJ, Wrestling
Absolute Weight Class winner Roger Gracie BJJ

Jees dude.. are you getting my point or not??? Sambo is just not as popular as BJJ? How many people in US know about fedor and sanbo? Be it so popular back in 1990’s with fighters coming out of USSR it would be just as big as BJJ. Your stats of “how many” mean nothing. What I see right now is fedor and even his brother have every BJJ fighter by its balls. Sambo did derive from JJ but not BJJ like you like to present.

Basicly what I’m trying to say is that in 2000 Sambo is Michal, BJJ is Tito…
